Security tightened at the second phase of the Van Thinh Phat trial

(Dan Tri) - On the morning of September 19, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court opened the trial of Ms. Truong My Lan (former Chairwoman of Van Thinh Phat Group) and 33 accomplices. Security in the court area was tightened.

At around 5:30 a.m. on September 19, police forces were present at the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court to prepare security for the trial of defendant Truong My Lan and 33 accomplices on charges of Fraudulent appropriation of property, Money laundering and Illegally transporting currency across the border. At 5:45 a.m., a convoy of about 15 vehicles escorted Ms. Truong My Lan and the defendants to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court. The vehicles carrying the defendants moved on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street. Many security forces were present in front of the court gate. The defendants' vehicles were escorted by three traffic police motorbikes into the court yard. Inside the court yard, about 1,000 seats and many LED screens were prepared for victims and related people to attend the second phase of the Van Thinh Phat trial. Around the streets in the court area such as: Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Nguyen Du, Ly Tu Trong, Nguyen Trung Truc..., functional forces are on duty to ensure order. Last April, Ms. Truong My Lan (former Chairwoman of Van Thinh Phat Group) was sentenced to death by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court for the crimes of Embezzlement, Violation of regulations on banking activities and Bribery. She appealed the sentence and will be reviewed next October. In front of the court gate, there are two signs with the content "no filming or photography" and "no mass gatherings". Security tightened around Ho Chi Minh City People's Court. Some residents prepare food before the trial begins. The trial is scheduled to last until October 19.
