Many people say eating yogurt causes stomach pain and reflux, but my wife thinks it reduces bloating and is good for digestion, right? (Truong, 30 years old, Hanoi ).
Reply:
During Tet (Vietnamese New Year), people often consume fatty and high-protein foods, which can easily lead to digestive problems, bloating, and discomfort. Yogurt, rich in beneficial bacteria, helps balance the gut microbiome, effectively reducing bloating and indigestion. Yogurt prevents constipation and improves digestion. People with diabetes or obesity can consume unsweetened yogurt.
Many people fear that eating yogurt will worsen stomach pain, but the acidity level in yogurt is negligible. Furthermore, the lactic acid produced by yogurt inhibits the growth of H. pylori (the culprit behind gastritis and peptic ulcers). The fermented bacteria in yogurt help boost local immunity, suppressing the growth of factors that cause stomach pain.
Therefore, people can eat yogurt after meals and should not eat it on an empty stomach, including those with stomach problems. It is not advisable to eat too much yogurt in one day.
Limit processed foods such as sausages, bacon, ham, and pickled vegetables. Avoid eating foods that are too hot, as this can alter the mucous membranes of the pharynx, mouth, esophagus, and intestines.
