(CLO) On November 6th, the IT and Information Security Leadership Summit - CIO CSO Summit 2024, themed 'Transforming Information Security Strategies: From Prevention to Post-Cyberattack Recovery Response', organized by the Information Security Department ( Ministry of Information and Communications ), Viettel Cyber Security, and IEC, took place in Hanoi.
At the conference, affirming the view that digital transformation must be accompanied by cybersecurity, Mr. Le Van Tuan, Director of the Information Security Department (Ministry of Information and Communications), analyzed: "Just as we build and protect the nation in real life, we must also build and protect the nation in cyberspace. Implementing regulations on information security is mandatory, not an option."
Updating the current situation of cybersecurity in Vietnam, Mr. Le Van Tuan said that in the first nine months of this year, the Cybersecurity Department detected, warned about, and guided the handling of 4,279 cyberattacks causing incidents to information systems in Vietnam, and recorded 243,337 malware samples from the beginning of the year to date.

The situation regarding the leakage of accounts belonging to agencies and organizations remains alarming. Specifically, the Cybersecurity Department has recently sent separate warnings to five ministries, sectors, and localities where significant data leaks have occurred.
A review by the Information Security Department of government websites revealed that as many as 625 websites belonging to agencies and organizations under 28 ministries and 53 provinces had links advertising gambling and other illegal content inserted into them.

From the perspective of a cybersecurity company, Viettel Cyber Security Director Nguyen Son Hai stated: In Vietnam, cybersecurity threats and risks are constantly increasing.
Specifically, according to data from the Viettel Threat Intelligence system, in one year, the number of brand impersonation scams increased by 15%; stolen accounts increased by 21%; new security vulnerabilities increased by 10%; the number of initial victims of ransomware attacks was more than 10 times higher than publicly disclosed incidents; and the number of personal and business data records in Vietnam offered for sale also increased 2.5 times compared to the previous year.
During the in-depth discussion session, Ms. Trieu Thi Thu Lan, an expert from KPMG Vietnam, also agreed that cyberattacks on organizations and businesses in Vietnam have increased sharply.
Ms. Trieu Thi Thu Lan recommended: "Along with ensuring compliance with regulations and strengthening cybersecurity capabilities, businesses and organizations need to focus on building and fostering a culture of information security and privacy. The goal is to ensure that all personnel within the organization, from leaders and managers to employees, internalize this culture and demonstrate it through their daily activities."
Analyzing cybersecurity challenges such as increasing and complex threats, personnel shortages, and limited resources, experts at the CIO CSO Summit 2024 unanimously agreed that it is necessary to shift the strategy from prevention to response and recovery after cyberattacks, with the goal of forming a sustainable information security strategy for the organization that balances effectiveness and investment costs.
According to experts, the optimal, safe, and quick approach is to choose a dedicated information security partner, so that businesses and organizations can focus on business development and ensure continuous and sustainable business performance.
