On December 12, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez confirmed that the ministry's email servers had been the target of a cyberattack.
Speaking to reporters, Nunez said that hackers may have gained access to some files. However, there is no evidence yet that the information has been seriously compromised.
Immediately after the attack, the unit implemented data security measures and strengthened access control to computer systems for its employees.
An official investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
This incident occurred more than four months after Bouygues Telecom, one of France's largest telecommunications companies and the third-largest mobile network operator, was hacked, exposing the information of millions of customers.
Orange, France's largest telecommunications provider, was also targeted by a cyberattack in August 2025.
More recently, on November 13th, data from the French branch of Danish telecommunications provider Eurofiber was stolen in a cyberattack.
