Hero Truong Dinh lives forever with the nation

(Baoquangngai.vn)- 159 years ago (August 20, 1864), National Hero Truong Dinh committed suicide with great spirit. He was an outstanding son of his hometown Quang Ngai, a patriot, an outstanding leader in the movement to fight against the French in Go Cong ( Tien Giang ) in particular and the country in general in the second half of the 19th century.

Truong Dinh was born in 1820 in Truong Dinh village, Tu Cung commune, Binh Son district (now Tinh Khe commune, Quang Ngai city). In 1844, he followed his father to the South, got married and settled down in Go Cong (Tien Giang). He was appointed by the Nguyen Dynasty to the position of Deputy Commander, then Commander, and participated in the fight against foreign invaders with the royal army, achieving many feats.

In 1862, the Nguyen Dynasty signed the Nham Tuat peace treaty, handing over the three eastern provinces to France, ordering Truong Dinh to withdraw troops and take up the position of Commander in An Giang . Truong Dinh refused the court's order and continued to fight against the French. On August 20, 1864, the French suddenly surrounded and attacked the insurgents, and Truong Dinh was seriously injured. Not allowing himself to fall into the enemy's hands, he drew his sword and committed suicide to preserve his heroic spirit.

To commemorate Truong Dinh's merits, in 2007, the Provincial People's Committee rebuilt Truong Dinh Temple with an area of over 2 hectares, at the foot of Dau Voi Mountain, in Khe Thuan hamlet, Tinh Khe commune (Quang Ngai city). The relic includes the following construction items: Tam quan gate, stele house, main temple, exhibition house, guest house, garden, surrounding fence. The temple still preserves many valuable documents and artifacts such as tablets, horizontal lacquered boards, parallel sentences, stele inscriptions, altars, three-piece sets, screens, incense burners, a pair of bronze turtles carrying cranes, a set of eight treasures, etc.

Truong Dinh Temple is a place of worship, memorialization, and visitation for the people of the homeland's outstanding son, who made great contributions to the struggle against French colonialism and the defense of the country in the second half of the 19th century. Truong Dinh's name is a source of pride and admiration for the people of Quang Ngai, the people of the South in particular and the whole country in general. His life and career are valuable historical documents that contribute to supplementing, contributing to, and embellishing the glorious and heroic history of the Vietnamese people.

Promoting the value of relics

On February 24, 2023, the historical relic of Truong Dinh Temple was ranked as a national relic. Currently, the Truong Dinh Temple relic is managed by the Son My Relic Site Management Board, effectively promoting and attracting tens of thousands of domestic and foreign tourists every year.

To commemorate the personality, talent and great contributions of National Hero Truong Dinh, people have built many temples, shrines and erected monuments in Tien Giang and Quang Ngai provinces. His name was given to the village where he was born and spent his childhood, many schools across the country from North to South in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Long An, Tien Giang provinces... are all named after him.

Mr. Le Van Tien, from Tien Giang province, during a business trip passing through Quang Ngai, came to pay his respects to the national hero. “The name Truong Dinh is a source of pride and admiration not only for the people of Quang Ngai, the people of the South in particular and the whole country in general. I came here to learn about his life and career and consider this a valuable source of historical material that contributes to embellishing the glorious and heroic history of the Vietnamese people,” said Mr. Tien.

According to Director of the Son My Relic Site Management Board Phan Thi Van Kieu, from the beginning of 2023 until now, the relic site has welcomed more than 10,000 visitors from inside and outside the province. In the past time, the relic site has been renovated and embellished many times with garden items, displaying documents, images, and artifacts at the exhibition house to ensure the environmental landscape, meeting the needs of visitors to learn, research, study and enjoy. The Son My Relic Site Management Board has edited and displayed all the content at the exhibition house to clarify the life and career of Truong Dinh.
