Impact of storm No. 10: Thai Nguyen urgently evacuates some households

In Thai Nguyen province, due to the influence of the weakened low pressure circulation from storm No. 10, combined with high-altitude wind convergence, from the night of September 29 to 11:30 a.m. on September 30, moderate rain and heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms occurred in the province, with very heavy rain in some places, causing a lot of damage to people's property.

Specifically, storms and floods have caused damage in many localities in the northern and central regions of the province. Up to now, floods have caused 15 houses to have their roofs blown off, landslides on the slopes causing complete collapse; 1 dormitory room of Cong Bang Secondary School (Cao Minh Commune) had its roof blown off by over 70%; 39.63 hectares of rice and corn were deeply submerged in water; National Highway 3C section through Na Pha village had a landslide 45m long with a volume of earth and rock of about 80,000 m3. In particular, heavy rains caused many key traffic routes, streets, and residential areas in wards such as Phan Dinh Phung, Gia Sang, Quan Trieu, Linh Son, Tich Luong... to be deeply submerged in water, paralyzing traffic and affecting people's lives.

The functional forces of the province, communes and wards are urgently overcoming the consequences, present at flooded locations, bridges, spillways, landslide risk points... to regulate traffic, stretch warning ropes, not allowing people and vehicles to pass, avoiding unfortunate damage. The local authorities where the damage occurred have inspected, directed, guided, and mobilized on-site forces to support people to overcome according to regulations, and supported the emergency evacuation of 3 households with 12 people in Na Deng village, Tran Phu commune to a safe place.

Currently, in Thai Nguyen province, it is still raining very heavily, with rainfall measured in some localities such as La Bang 213mm; Dai Tu 182.4mm; Phu Dinh 141.6mm; Yen Thinh 129.4mm.... The remaining localities commonly have rainfall from 50 - 80mm.

The water level at Nui Coc Lake is increasing. To ensure safety, Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company will operate the water discharge through the spillway of Nui Coc Lake from 12:15 on September 30, opening floodgate No. 1 with a flow rate of 50m3/s; opening floodgate No. 2 with a flow rate of 200m3/s.

To proactively respond to heavy rains, flash floods and landslides, on September 30, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province issued Official Dispatch No. 10/CD-UBND requesting departments, branches and localities to continue to closely monitor the developments of heavy rains and floods, promptly warn people; review areas at high risk of landslides and flooding, proactively prepare evacuation plans when necessary; arrange forces to control, guide and divert traffic in areas with deep flooding, underground overflows, and landslides; ensure the safety of dams, irrigation works, especially Nui Coc Lake and medium and small reservoirs in the area; prepare forces and means for rescue when bad situations occur...

According to the forecast, during the day and night of September 30, Thai Nguyen will continue to have moderate to heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain with common rainfall of 50-100mm, some places over 180mm. There is a risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas. The Provincial People's Committee requests units and localities to strictly implement the telegram to minimize damage and ensure safety for the people.
