For more than a month now, when farmers in Dak Lak province have entered the main durian harvest season, National Highway 26, from Buon Ma Thuot ward through Ea Knuec, Krong Pac and Ea Phe communes with a length of about 35km, has been continuously experiencing traffic congestion and increasing the risk of traffic accidents.

This situation has been happening for many years now, greatly affecting people's circulation and businesses' durian export purchasing activities... but until now there has been no solution to solve this problem.

According to the latest statistics of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Dak Lak province , the whole province currently has nearly 45,000 hectares of durian, the expected output in 2025 is about 443,000 tons and in the coming years the output will continue to increase sharply. That is not to mention many other key agricultural products of the province. Most of the facilities purchasing and packaging durian for export are mainly along both sides of National Highway 26 from Buon Ma Thuot ward through Ea Knuec, Krong Pac and Ea Phe communes with a length of about 35km.

Meanwhile, National Highway 26, 151 km long, is a vital traffic route connecting Dak Lak province with Khanh Hoa province, connecting National Highway 1A and the seaport system transporting agricultural products to ports and border gates in the north.

After the merger of Dak Lak and Phu Yen provinces, National Highway 26 is one of the two main routes connecting the western and eastern regions of the province as well as connecting the Central Highlands with the South Central Coast provinces. However, this national highway has been invested and upgraded through many stages, so there are sections with a road surface of 11m, sections with a road surface of 9m and especially up to 80km with a road surface of only 6m wide. While the infrastructure is not synchronous, the means of transport has increased dramatically. Previously, there were only about 3,000 to 5,000 vehicles circulating each day, but during the durian harvest season, it has increased to more than 10,000 vehicles, especially modified vehicles and motorbikes with baskets on both sides participating in transporting durian and container trucks purchasing durian parked on both sides of the road in large numbers, leading to traffic congestion ...

Traffic on this route is often congested, especially during rush hour from 3pm to 7pm every day.

Because there are too many container trucks gathered on both sides of the road.

When container trucks turn around or move in and out of warehouses and yards to wait to load and unload durian, it often causes traffic jams on Highway 26.

At the same time, many trucks and containers are parked illegally on both sides of the road.

Besides, after the merger of Dak Lak and Phu Yen provinces, National Highway 26 is one of two main routes connecting the eastern and western regions of the province as well as connecting the Central Highlands with the South Central coastal provinces, so the number of motor vehicles participating in traffic has increased sharply.

Right at the peak durian harvest season, Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company 26 also invested in expanding about 2km of the section through the center of Krong Pac commune.

The construction of National Highway 26 expansion at this time makes the section of National Highway 26 passing through Krong Pac commune even more congested.

The sudden increase in traffic during the durian harvest not only causes congestion on Highway 26 but also poses a potential risk of traffic accidents.
