NPK Recovery has developed a mobile system that can collect urine from toilets. Bacteria will process and transform the urine into nutrients including nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which are the main components of fertilizer.



Previously, this startup collected approximately 1,000 liters of urine at the London 2025 marathon and the Boomtown music festival for testing purposes.
Lucy Bell-Reeves, co-founder of NPK Recovery, said: "We are too dependent on imported fertilizers. The production process also consumes natural resources. Therefore, we want to utilize readily available waste materials to create organic fertilizers."
Previously, this startup collected approximately 1,000 liters of urine at the London 2025 marathon and the Boomtown music festival for testing. The results showed that the fertilizer produced was as effective on wheat plants as current synthetic ammonium nitrate fertilizers.


Currently, they are implementing a project to plant 4,500 trees over three years in Wales, using the very fertilizers produced by the company.
