On May 28, Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson He Yadong said that economic and trade teams from China and the United States will maintain close contact on tariff issues, develop concrete agreements, and expedite implementation as soon as possible.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Ha A Dong noted that tariffs have long been one of the key issues in economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, the two economic and trade teams have had extensive discussions on tariff issues and reached several related agreements.

Both sides reached an agreement in principle to hold discussions within the framework of the trade council on a framework agreement for reciprocal tariff reductions.

This agreement applies to product groups valued at $30 billion or more for each party.

The previous day, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that China was ready to cooperate with the US in implementing the important consensuses reached between the leaders of the two countries, and to take concrete actions to soon realize a stable and constructive strategic relationship.

Wang Yi made the statement during a discussion with representatives from the US strategic and business sectors while in New York to chair a high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

He argued that Sino-American relations extend beyond the bilateral sphere, impacting global peace and concerning the future of humanity.

According to him, promoting the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of Sino-US relations is a common expectation of the international community, and a responsibility that both China and the United States must fulfill.

Improving Sino-US relations requires both sides to work toward common goals, effectively manage differences, broaden the range of areas for cooperation, and narrow the list of outstanding issues.
