Apple is right again

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max mark a strong comeback for Apple, as the company focuses on addressing user needs instead of competing with other giants.

After many years of only releasing small upgrades, Apple has returned to the race with the iPhone 17. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max duo not only attracted the attention of the market, but were also compared by the technology world to important milestones such as the iPhone 4, iPhone X and iPhone 12.

The change is clear when looking back at last year’s iPhone 16. At that time, Apple hoped that artificial intelligence would usher in a new “super cycle”. However, the results were disappointing when Apple Intelligence features were delayed, limited to some new models, and lacked a highlight to attract users. Meanwhile, the lack of new design also made people unable to find a convincing reason to upgrade.

With the iPhone 17, Apple has taken a more pragmatic approach. Instead of emphasizing AI, an area that is not yet comparable to Google, Samsung or Chinese competitors, Apple has focused on improving the factors that matter most to users, including battery life, durability, camera and design.

The effect of this change was quickly evident in sales. In the first two days of sales, many Apple stores around the world witnessed crowded queues, something rarely seen in recent years. Without a new Retina display or groundbreaking Face ID, the iPhone 17 Pro has rekindled some of the excitement associated with previous generations.

Initial tests show that the iPhone 17 Pro Max has improved battery life, superior 8x zoom, reduced overheating, sharp selfie camera and smoother performance. In particular, Apple's decision to abandon the controversial titanium shell on the iPhone 15 Pro is considered the right decision, bringing a more stable and durable experience.

Alongside the Pro line, the iPhone Air has also attracted attention thanks to its ultra-light design. However, its limited battery life, single speaker, and high price make it difficult for it to become the star of the year. However, the iPhone Air may sell better than the Plus and Mini lines that were discontinued earlier.

The success of the iPhone 17 comes at a crucial time. Apple is facing a saturated market, declining demand in China and pressure to expand into new markets. At the same time, observers are concerned that Apple's smartphones are gradually losing ground to the wave of personal AI devices from Google, Meta and OpenAI.

In the short term, the iPhone will remain central to the digital lives of hundreds of millions of users. Apple could launch a foldable smartphone in 2026 and a full-screen model in 2027. But the big challenge will come around 2028, when rivals launch augmented reality glasses and advanced AI devices.
