According to Android Authority , unlike Apple's Vision Pro, the XREAL Air 2 Ultra, which was unveiled at CES 2024, has a street-style design. It boasts 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF) through two dedicated 3D ambient sensors that provide simultaneous positioning and mapping to determine the user's location in 3D space. The company claims the 3D sensors will be the smallest on the market once the glasses launch later this year.

The XREAL Air 2 Ultra is priced at just $699.
Like the Air 2 Pro before it, the Air 2 Ultra offers Full HD viewing for each eye. They have a field of view (FOV) of 52 degrees at 42 pixels per degree (PPD). The company says its PPD is higher than the Vision Pro (which is said to have 34 PPD), which is also extremely high with the ability to contain 23 million pixels across two screens, more than even 4K TVs.
Although the XREAL Air 2 Ultra doesn't directly compete with the Vision Pro, its specifications are quite impressive. The glasses support a fast refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 500 nits. The company claims the virtual display can simulate a 154-inch screen from a distance of 4 meters. The XREAL Air 2 Ultra is compatible with a number of devices, including Windows and Mac laptops, Samsung Galaxy phones, and the iPhone 15 series.
Speaking of iPhones, the Air 2 Ultra also supports Apple's new Spatial Video feature. As we know, although iPhone 15 Pro users can record space videos thanks to iOS 17.2, they can only view them in 3D on compatible glasses. Besides Vision Pro, users can also view these space videos on the XREAL Air 2 Ultra, as well as the Air 2 and Air 2 Pro.

The current glasses are only aimed at developer customers.
As of now, the Air 2 Ultra is not for consumers as it was designed specifically for developers. The glasses have a titanium frame, weigh 80 grams, have adjustable temples in 3 positions, and are TÜV Rheinland certified for eye comfort.
The current pre-order price for the XREAL Air 2 Ultra for developers is $699, which is about five times cheaper than the Vision Pro. The headset is expected to be available from March 2024. Developers who previously purchased the Nreal Light AR headset will receive a $100 discount when they pre-order the new model.
