Messi leads a team of veterans to conquer the World Cup.
Except for Angel Di Maria, who retired from the national team after the 2024 Copa America, coach Lionel Scaloni retained most of the key players who helped Argentina win their third World Cup title in history.

A total of 17 players who had previously lifted the World Cup trophy in Qatar are continuing to support Argentina on their journey to defend their title.
The centerpiece of the list continues to be Lionel Messi. At 38 years old, the Inter Miami star will be participating in his sixth World Cup. Alongside Messi, the 2022 World Cup champions Emiliano Martinez, Nicolas Otamendi, Rodrigo De Paul, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez, Julian Alvarez, and Lautaro Martinez are all included in the squad.
Many young talents were given the opportunity.
Valentin Barco, Nicolas Paz, and Giuliano Simeone are expected to bring new life to the team. Meanwhile, striker Jose Manuel Lopez and Thiago Almada are among the players making their first World Cup appearance.

Alongside experienced veterans, the Argentine coaching staff has also added many young talents to prepare for the generational transition.
According to the schedule, Argentina will begin their campaign in Group J with a match against Algeria on June 16th. Following that, the reigning world champions will face Jordan and Austria in the remaining group stage matches.
