Speaking at the 43rd annual congress of the Argentine Institute of Financial Executives (IAEF), Foreign Minister Quirno announced that Argentina will officially submit its application to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The application will be forwarded to the Minister of Trade of New Zealand, the country holding the depositary status of the agreement.
According to Mr. Quirno, the CPTPP currently brings together 12 member economies , contributing approximately 13% of global GDP. Joining the agreement is expected to help Argentina strengthen its connections with the world's leading dynamic markets, while also opening up more opportunities for exports, attracting investment, and developing the private sector.

Currently, the CPTPP is the world's fourth largest free trade area, with members including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam.
The agreement is considered one of the highest-standard multilateral trade mechanisms currently in existence, covering many areas from trade in goods and services to investment and e-commerce. The Argentine government further stated that the goal of joining the CPTPP is to expand access to new markets, diversify foreign economic relations, and promote growth through the private sector.
This move also reflects Argentina's commitment to strengthening its integration with the Asia-Pacific region, one of the world's most dynamic growth centers.
If approved by the members, Argentina would become the fourth South American country to join the CPTPP, after Chile, Peru, and Mexico, thereby significantly expanding its network of trading partners beyond the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).
