Over its 58-year journey of development, ASEAN has affirmed its position as one of the most successful regional organizations in the world. With nearly 700 million people and a GDP of about 3,800 billion USD, ASEAN is a cohesive, dynamic community and currently ranks fifth globally in terms of economic scale. ASEAN's most significant achievement is maintaining a peaceful, stable and cooperative region - something that few other regions in the world have been able to do for nearly six decades.
With these results, ASEAN has the potential to become a new growth center and a factor in creating peace and stability in the region. The admission of Timor Leste later this year is expected to expand the development space, bring new energy and open up many cooperation opportunities for a prosperous Southeast Asia.
Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed that the achievements stemmed from the clear vision of ASEAN founders, fostered by the persistent efforts and strong commitment of member countries, and the companionship of partners.
