Vietnam wishes to strengthen cooperation with WIPO to promote innovation and digital transformation.

On September 26, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang received Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang highly appreciated the role of WIPO in proposing policies, services, information and cooperation in the field of intellectual property and innovation. The Deputy Minister affirmed that developing science , technology, innovation and national digital transformation is one of the pillars of the new development stage of Vietnam.

The Deputy Minister informed about Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation, and emphasized that to successfully implement the Resolution, Vietnam wishes to strengthen cooperation with specialized organizations of the United Nations, especially WIPO.

At the same time, it is requested that WIPO continue to support Vietnam in the field of using intellectual property as a tool to promote innovation, support Vietnam in sustainable development, green transformation, and digital transformation. Vietnam also hopes that WIPO will support the training of high-quality human resources, improve the ranking in the global innovation index, and create conditions for more Vietnamese people to work for WIPO.

Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang hopes that WIPO will strengthen cooperation with ASEAN in the field of intellectual property, especially supporting the consolidation of ASEAN frameworks on intellectual property.

For his part, Mr. Daren Tang highly appreciated Vietnam's approach and strong political commitment to science and technology development and innovation, especially the issuance of Resolution 57.

Expressing his delight at the increasingly deep and extensive development of the Vietnam-WIPO relationship, the Director General said that Vietnam is a model of innovation, one of the fastest improving countries in the Global Innovation Index (GII) among lower-middle-income countries.

The WIPO Director General shared cooperation programs on intellectual property, including teaching on intellectual property law, commercialization of intellectual property, intellectual property training programs for diplomats ...

In the digital age, each country needs to develop its own intellectual property plan. Today, Asian countries are no longer recipients of aid but suppliers of scientific and technological innovations to the world.

Mr. Daren Tang agreed to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and WIPO, and affirmed that he will closely cooperate with Vietnamese government agencies as well as Vietnamese enterprises in the field of intellectual property.
