Despite its many advantages, the iPhone 16e also has its drawbacks, such as the aluminum frame and glass back lacking color options, the A18 chip with a quad-core GPU instead of a 5-core one, and a single camera instead of the dual-camera setup found on the higher-end version. However, the iPhone 16e is still powerful enough to help Apple dominate the global smartphone market, with a 19% market share projected for Q1 2025, according to a report from Counterpoint Intelligence.

Regarding the iPhone 17e, Mark Gurman suggests that Apple may limit the performance of this version to protect the position of the standard iPhone 17. However, the iPhone 17e still has some advantages, such as a design similar to the standard iPhone 16 with a Dynamic Island display instead of the outdated "notch." Apple may also equip the iPhone 17e with the latest A19 chip, albeit with fewer cores. These factors will help Apple meet the demands of those who only need basic iPhone models for everyday use, rather than the more powerful and expensive features of the iPhone 17.
