After years of being considered behind its competitors in the field of digital assistants and artificial intelligence (AI), Apple is reportedly preparing a comprehensive overhaul for Siri on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and the next generation of macOS.

According to the latest leaks, this will be the biggest upgrade in Siri's nearly 15-year history, and a strategic asset that will help Apple compete with leading AI platforms like OpenAI, Google, and Samsung.
These changes are expected to be announced by Apple at the WWDC global developer conference on June 8th.
According to Bloomberg , the new Siri will not simply be a voice assistant but will become a true "AI Agent," capable of understanding personal context, analyzing on-screen content, searching for information from the internet, and performing complex tasks across the entire operating system.
This is seen as a pivotal moment for Apple's AI strategy after a challenging year. In 2024, the company introduced a series of Apple Intelligence features but repeatedly delayed their release, widening the gap with its competitors.
Over the past period, Apple has reportedly had to rebuild many core components of Siri and change its approach to generative AI.
Siri will live inside Dynamic Island.
One of the most notable changes is that Siri will be deeply integrated into Dynamic Island on the iPhone.
Instead of appearing only as a pop-up window as it does now, the new Siri will function as an always-on assistant. Users simply need to say "Siri" or press and hold the power button to activate the completely new interface right within Dynamic Island.

Apple wants to turn Siri into the central hub for coordinating all activities on the device. The system can combine personal data, on-screen information, and data from the web to fulfill user requests much more intelligently than before.
For example, Siri can read the content of emails, calendars, notes, or messages to provide appropriate responses, instead of just processing simple commands like setting an alarm or opening an app.
In addition to the traditional activation method, Apple is reportedly going to introduce a completely new interaction method.
Users simply swipe down from the center of the top edge of the screen to open the "Search or Ask" interface. This will be where the search engine, AI chatbot, and personal assistant are combined.
The new interface allows for text or voice searches. Users can open apps, send messages, check the weather, create appointments, search notes, execute in-app shortcuts, or search the internet using Apple's new AI search system.

Search results will be displayed as visual information cards that appear from Dynamic Island. For a more in-depth conversation, users can swipe further to open a full chatbot-style conversation with Siri.
Siri has its own app.
Another strategic change is that Apple will develop a standalone Siri application.
This application works similarly to ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude. Users can review chat history, continue previous conversations, and manage AI requests in a separate space.
The interface will support text input, voice chat, and uploading documents or images for Siri to analyze.
This marks a major transformation for Siri from a device-controlled assistant into a fully functional conversational AI platform.
According to sources, Apple no longer wants to develop AI in a completely closed model.
In addition to its current partnership with ChatGPT, the company has been experimenting with integrating Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude into the Siri ecosystem.
Users can directly select the AI model they want to use through a dropdown menu in the Search or Ask interface. This allows Apple to leverage the strengths of various AI platforms instead of relying solely on its own technology.
This move also shows that Apple is becoming more realistic in the AI race, acknowledging that collaborating with external partners can help it close the gap with its competitors.

Siri is smart enough to manage schedules and compose content.
One of Siri's biggest weaknesses right now is its ability to handle complex requests.
With the new version, users can ask Siri about available time slots in their calendar before making an appointment.
The system can also detect overlapping schedules and suggest suitable alternatives.
Additionally, Siri can automatically write emails, notes, or messages based on information gathered from the internet combined with data on the device.
For example, users can ask Siri to create a note instructing them on how to repair a car engine or to compose an email to a business partner, including their available time in their work schedule.
Camera and Photos have been significantly upgraded thanks to AI.
Apple is also integrating Siri directly into the Camera app.
Users can take photos and immediately ask AI to analyze the content, search for similar images on Google, or send them to external AI models to receive detailed information.

This is seen as an important preparatory step for future products such as smart glasses or AirPods with integrated cameras.

Meanwhile, the Photos app will be updated with two new AI tools: Reframe and Extend.
Reframe allows you to change the perspective or composition of a photo after it has been taken. Extend uses AI to create additional parts of the image that are missing.
For example, if a building is cropped out at the bottom in the original image, AI can automatically and naturally add the missing part.
Apple is also testing a natural language photo editing feature. Users simply speak or type a request such as "crop image square," "make the sky bluer," or "increase face brightness," and the AI will automatically perform the action.
In addition to Siri, iOS 27 also brings a host of other changes such as a more customizable Camera app, the ability to create personalized e-cards in Wallet, AI wallpapers, a system-wide grammar checker, and a new version of Image Playground.
