1/ Talking to us, “curator” Nguyen Phan Khoa (exhibition curator, second son of writer Nguyen Huy Thiep) said that after nearly 7 months since the launch of this memorial area with an abstract painting exhibition called “Door” by artist Nguyen Tat Long (April 2024), until now, the memorial area has officially changed its name to “Nguyen Huy Thiep Cultural Space”. Because - Mr. Khoa said - we have to find such a broad name to fully visualize this space for those who are interested. Also because of the very broad issues with many sections, pieces, levels, steps... that the old writer's writings outlined and left behind, will be for - directed towards many future generations.
According to Mr. Khoa, the number of paintings exhibited by the artists he invited to form the group of “8x tripod legs” of the same age as him this time is quite interesting. Because each artist brought the same number of paintings as the first line of the song: “Five, ten, fifteen…”. And the three artists grouped their names into “song vu hop duc” (roughly translated: flying wings in harmony with justice and virtue) to observe and “weigh” the multifaceted values of contemporary life in many aspects “from home to the street”.

“Little Flowers”, painting by Nguyen Dinh Vu. |
2/First is artist Nguyen Dinh Vu (born in 1980), from Thai Nguyen , studied at the provincial fine arts college since childhood, and graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2008. His acrylic paintings are a combination of traditional and modern art, on large canvases hung horizontally and vertically in the form of both hand-drawn and graphic works to reflect social life under observation in a somewhat "man hoa" form. He uses the characteristic blue color of ceramics, a color with special cultural appeal in Asia, as the background for the main character in European clothes. On a white canvas background, the motifs drawn from traditional ethnic engravings create a unique contrast with the modern image, forming a strong impression, raising many questions for the viewer...
Painter Le Minh Duc (born in 1981 in Ninh Binh , graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2005) brought 10 works (4 impressive landscape paintings on paper, 6 expressionist - abstract lacquer paintings). His works are like a "double voice song" about life with two streams of syllables. He pushes his own pure and natural emotions into his strokes. Either romantic and dreamy, or unforgettable anxiety and sadness... Duc's works reflect a creative journey rich in inner thoughts and life experiences, expressed through his unique expressive style and color palette.

“Free fall at midnight”, painting by Le Minh Duc. |
The youngest in the group is artist Pham Ngoc Vu (born in 1986, originally from Ho Van Chuong, Hanoi , graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2013) and also the strongest painter. Few people know that, as a teenager, he was a "famous" shuttlecock player, one of the players representing Hanoi students in national competitions. In addition to the 15 paintings hanging alongside his "8x tripod" friends on the second floor, there are 3 more paintings hanging on the stairs leading up to the gallery. This series of works by the "Tiger" boy is also as strong and fresh as the animal he is born in. It seems to be an observation of "excess energy" and joy towards the simple, everyday life around the streets, of an author who has enough strength and spirit to turn the most unfortunate things of everyday life into joy and health, to calmly welcome tomorrow's sunshine! The name "Three dots Son" of this group exhibition, Mr. Khoa said, is also a fresh, concise idea that Pham Ngoc Vu came up with.
