In a document issued on the afternoon of May 24th, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province agreed to suspend all activities of the Vietnam Sea and Islands Festival - Vung Tau City 2024 from 5 PM on the same day. The event was organized by the Phan Trong Binh People's Armed Forces Hero Social Work Fund.
The province requested the organizing unit to retrieve all items and hand over the site to Vung Tau City before noon on May 26th, and to be responsible for paying all costs, including contract compensation to all relevant parties.
According to the organizers, the festival, taking place from May 23-26 in the Bai Truoc area of Vung Tau City, will include activities such as mass yoga performances, a parade of Vietnamese ao dai (traditional dress), mobile propaganda campaigns about Vietnam's seas and islands, and a food fair with 200 stalls.
However, by the afternoon of May 24th, the Phan Trong Binh People's Armed Forces Hero Social Work Fund had only managed to organize one activity: a mass yoga performance, a food fair, and a parade of Vietnamese traditional dresses (áo dài). The remaining events, including the "Journey of Aspiration" art performance on the evening of May 25th featuring many famous artists, did not proceed as planned.
The reason given by the Fund is that due to time constraints, partners and service providers are unable to continue their collaboration as agreed. Additionally, the organizers realized they could not complete the content in a way that ensured it met the plan and objectives approved by the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, and therefore requested to discontinue some activities.
People's Armed Forces Hero Phan Trọng Bình was born in 1923 in Hanoi . He was a veteran revolutionary cadre from the pre-insurrection period and was imprisoned in Con Dao prison. He was formerly the Deputy Secretary of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee and Deputy Head of the Central Organization Department. After his death in 2017, a fund named after him was established and has implemented community projects nationwide.
