A representative from a Vietnamese internet service provider shared that network operators have implemented solutions to ensure quality for users.
Vietnam currently has five international undersea fiber optic cables: AAE-1, AAG, APG, IA, and SMW3. Cable breaks affecting internet access have occurred in recent years. In early 2023, all five cables experienced failures, resulting in a loss of approximately 75% of international traffic. This was the most serious undersea fiber optic cable break in history.
According to the approved Information and Communication Infrastructure Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Vietnam will invest in an additional 4-6 fiber optic cable lines by 2030, and in the short term, an additional 2-4 submarine fiber optic cable lines will be added by 2025.
