Bac Giang invests in transport infrastructure: Increasing connectivity, expanding development space

Ha Bac II Bridge has been completed by Bac Giang province for a long time, but only recently has the road in Bac Ninh province connecting to the bridge been completed and put into use. This is one of the important projects connecting Viet Yen town, Hiep Hoa district (Bac Giang) with Yen Phong district (Bac Ninh). The bridge is 500 m long, 16 m wide; the road in Bac Giang connecting to the bridge is more than 1.5 km long according to the standards of a grade III plain road, with a roadbed width of 12 m and a road surface of 11 m. The total investment of the project is more than 358 billion VND from the central and provincial budgets. The solid bridge connecting the two banks of the Cau River meets the long-standing expectations of the people.

The completion of this traffic route not only helps people in the two provinces travel more easily but also opens up many opportunities for economic development. Mr. Ngo Van Bon, Phu Tai village, Tien Son commune, Viet Yen town, who provides goods and transportation services, shared that in the past, to cross the river, he had to take a boat. On many stormy days, the river water rose high and flowed rapidly, and he had to stop working. Thanks to the new bridge and road, people's travel and trade are more convenient. He can provide services whenever customers need, ensuring proactive and dedicated service.

Like Mr. Bon, in the opposite direction, people in Bac Ninh province only need a few minutes to cross the bridge to set foot in Bac Giang province. Thus, up to now, there have been 5 bridges connecting the two provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang. These bridges contribute to shortening the geographical distance, further tightening the economic flow, connecting the unique historical and cultural values ​​of the two provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang.

It is known that the Ha Bac I bridge project connecting to Bac Ninh province has also been approved with a total investment of about 1,700 billion VND. This bridge will connect provincial road 298B of Bac Giang province with provincial road 295C of Bac Ninh province, expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2027. In addition, Van Ha bridge, connecting Van Ha commune (Viet Yen town) with Hoa Long ward (Bac Ninh city) is also being focused on implementation. The bridge is expected to be about 360 m long; the approach roads on both sides of the bridge are invested in accordance with the approved planning scale, suitable for the scale of the bridge and ensuring connection with the regional traffic system. The total investment is about 240 billion VND.

Prioritize resources

Bac Giang clearly identifies the development of transport infrastructure as a key priority task that needs to be focused on, contributing to promoting socio-economic development. Therefore, in recent years, Bac Giang has invested resources in a series of transport projects, creating breakthrough developments with many important and strategic routes, creating development space and a new look for localities, contributing to strengthening intra-regional and inter-regional connectivity. With the determination of the province and the attention of the Government and the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction), the "bottleneck" on the Hanoi - Bac Giang expressway through Nhu Nguyet bridge and Xuong Giang bridge has been resolved. The upgrading of the only bridge that goes together with the road - railway in Cam Ly area (Luc Nam district) has also been invested in.

The road connecting National Highway 37 - National Highway 17 connects Yen The district with Vo Nhai district (Thai Nguyen).

In particular, the development of external transport has made a breakthrough thanks to Bac Giang province's active and proactive coordination with neighboring provinces and cities to simultaneously invest in many important inter-provincial transport projects and works. In addition to Bac Ninh province, other projects include: Construction of Hoa Son bridge and access road; project connecting national highway 37 - national highway 17 Vo Nhai, connecting Bac Giang with Thai Nguyen; Dong Viet bridge project, connecting Bac Giang with Hai Duong; road connecting My An port - national highway 31, strengthening the connection between Bac Giang and Lang Son; coordination with Hanoi city to complete the investment in the road connecting Hanoi - Bac Giang expressway. Bac Giang cooperates with Quang Ninh province to study and invest in the road connecting Son Dong district, Bac Giang province with Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, gradually realizing the goal of bringing Bac Giang closer to the sea.

In the 2021-2025 period alone, Bac Giang allocated more than VND9.7 trillion from public investment capital for transport infrastructure. Thereby, Bac Giang has made strong changes in transport infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development.

The provincial road network has been developed through the opening and upgrading of 336 km (estimated by the end of 2025), exceeding the set target by nearly 100 km. The number of provincial roads has increased from 18 to 37 out of a total of 40 planned provincial roads; the length has increased from 404.99 km to 893.17 km.

In addition, Bac Giang also focuses on developing transport infrastructure in ethnic minority and mountainous areas to narrow regional gaps and promote local economies. Local people have shared responsibility with the State in investing in developing transport infrastructure, many families have voluntarily donated land, created conditions for site clearance and participated in protecting transport infrastructure... According to Mr. Tran Xuan Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, the two provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh will soon merge. Based on the new administrative boundaries, in the period of 2026-2030, the authorities will review and study the viewpoints, objectives and contents of the adjustment of the province's transport development planning, ensuring synchronous connection with the national transport system, effectively exploiting and improving connectivity between industrial parks, clusters and urban areas in the province and the region; supplementing external connection routes according to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Standing Committee of the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee and the Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees of neighboring provinces.
