For many years, the old man lived as a vagrant in the village of Dejgah in the Fars province of southern Iran. He refused to bathe because he believed that bathing would make him sick, according to the British newspaper The Daily Mirror .

Despite the poor sanitation and living conditions, Amou Haji’s overall health is surprisingly good. A team of doctors recently conducted a series of tests and confirmed it.
The team of doctors, led by parasitology professor Gholamreza Molavi at the School of Public Health in Tehran, Iran, visited Haji and convinced him to undergo a number of tests, including tests for hepatitis, AIDS, and other parasitic diseases.
Professor Molavi's team wanted to search for and study parasites and bacteria in Haji's body. However, surprisingly, they did not find any significant bacteria or parasites. He was only infected with the worm Trichinella spiralis. This parasite can cause fever, muscle pain, swelling around the eye sockets and is dangerous to health. However, Haji did not show any symptoms when infected with Trichinella spiralis.
These findings were especially shocking to the team of doctors because Haji not only did not bathe, but also often ate raw meat from porcupines and rabbits, drank dirty water from rusty cans, and even smoked dried animal feces if he did not have cigarettes.
The team of doctors believes that the only reasonable explanation is that after many years of living in poor sanitary conditions, Haji's immune system has developed to an extremely strong level, strong enough to fight off many different diseases.
Haji was often chased away and ridiculed by villagers because he was too dirty. Local authorities asked people to leave Haji alone because although he was dirty, he was a gentle person and had never harmed anyone, according to The Daily Mirror .
