Famous beach deformed after storm

Heavy rains and storms at the end of November caused serious landslides, completely distorting the landscape at Ham Rong beach, Vinh Loc commune, Hue city. Once a famous destination with golden sand, this place now only has a desolate and ruined scene.

The waves have eroded deeply into the shore, washing away the sand strip. Many trees that function as wave breakers and landscapers have been uprooted and lying scattered. This situation not only affects tourism activities but also directly threatens the lives of local people.

Severe economic and infrastructure damage

According to records, the system of coastal restaurants and services has been severely damaged. Many concrete structures and pillars of restaurants were washed away by waves, hanging on deep cliffs created by landslides. Some locations have vertical frog jaws, posing a potential danger.

According to statistics from Vinh Loc Commune People's Committee, the entire beach area has 5 shops that are severely damaged, many items cannot be restored because the foundation has been washed away. Mr. Hoang Trong Quang, a restaurant owner here, said that the erosion has been going on for many years but the level of destruction this time is beyond imagination. "My shop used to have two rows of coconut trees more than 30m from the sea's edge. Now the waves have washed them all away, washed away the foundation and collapsed the shop," Mr. Quang shared.

A concrete column of the restaurant had its foundation hollowed out by waves, leaving it hanging precariously on the edge of a landslide.

Not only businesses, landslides also directly threaten residential areas. In village 4, Vinh Loc commune, there are 14 households in the danger zone, worried that the sea will continue to eat into the mainland.

People expect urgent solutions

Faced with the urgent situation, local businesses and residents hope that the government will soon have temporary solutions such as building soft embankments and sheet pile embankments to reduce the rate of erosion and protect the coast while waiting for more permanent projects.

A representative of Vinh Loc Commune People's Committee said that they have requested Hue City to quickly allocate funds to urgently handle severe landslides. The immediate goal is to restore livelihoods for people in the beach service area and ensure safety for coastal residential areas.

In the long term, investing in a system of solid, sturdy embankments to protect the coast, combined with upgrading coastal roads to serve rescue and relief work, is considered a fundamental solution to stabilize people's lives and develop sustainable tourism.
