Through the story of a seagull named Jonathan, the book not only tells about the typical life of a seabird, but also wants to mention the issues of training to achieve human dreams. Jonathan has a passion for flying. For him, that passion is greater than anything in the world, and he has overcome all difficulties and challenges to make it happen. While most members of the flock only fly after fishing boats on the ocean to make a living, Jonathan always thinks about practicing flying. Jonathan's tireless efforts make many other seagulls in the flock dislike him, consider him useless, even a "dreamer", so they try to distance themselves from him. Even Jonathan's parents do not understand their beloved child's dream, showing concern for Jonathan's lonely flight in the sky all day.
However, Jonathan did not blame them, because the young seagull knew that all of the above treatment came from the fact that no one understood the joy and happiness in the process of flying to explore the world around him. Many times, Jonathan became so skinny from training that he was "all bones and feathers", but he was always happy, trying to practice in every position in many weather conditions. Gradually, Jonathan reached perfection, flying to the place where many seagulls had the same dream of flying as him and all achieved the level of perfect flying - the place they called "heaven". It was also when he reached the peak of his dream that Jonathan realized that: "Heaven is not a place, nor a time. Heaven is the state when we achieve perfection"...
“The Miraculous Seagull” is a long fable with more than 160 pages. The plot is simple but expressed in a quite attractive narrative style. Through the work, writer Richard Bach wants to send young people a lesson about pursuing dreams, constantly learning and having to commit and strive to make that dream come true. Besides, the author also sends everyone a message: With kindness and love, sympathize and help young people realize their dreams. That is a valuable lesson that every society and every generation needs.
Born in 1936, a former fighter pilot and an American aircraft mechanic, the sky and adventures were the endless inspiration for Richard Bach to write the work "The Miraculous Seagull". In 1970, when it was first published, "The Miraculous Seagull" was one of the best-selling books in the US, then translated into 30 languages around the world and reprinted many times with a huge circulation of more than 60 million copies. Although the work is allegorical and intended for children, "The Miraculous Seagull" also brings many interesting things to older readers, especially the content referring to Zen, Eastern philosophy and religions...
