Thai village hidden in the valley
Kho Muong village is located more than 150km from Thanh Hoa city. This is a Thai village, located deep in the core area of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Kho Muong is also isolated from other villages in the area.
According to the locals, “Kho” is the root, “Muong” is the village. “Kho Muong” is the first place (300 years ago) where people came. Seeing the flat valley and abundant water from the streams, they decided to stay and cultivate the fields and build the village.

The road to the village follows the winding mountainside, with a cliff on one side and a deep abyss on the other. This road is a challenge for “backpackers” who love to explore this place.
From above, Kho Muong village appears with its pristine, simple beauty with stilt houses located at the foot of the mountain next to rice fields, corn fields, and cassava fields. Surrounding Kho Muong is the immense green of primeval forests.
Coming to Kho Muong, visitors will be immersed in the fresh, cool atmosphere, completely separate from the hustle and bustle of the city. Besides, visitors can also eat local dishes and watch local performances.

Coming to Kho Muong, visitors also have the opportunity to visit Kho Muong cave (Bat cave), a 2.5km long cave with stalactites of many strange shapes.
Community tourism development
In recent years, many households in Kho Muong village have been trained, equipped with knowledge, and invested in facilities to serve domestic and international tourists who come here to visit and experience.

Mr. Ha Dinh Nech (74 years old, homestay business in Kho Muong) said that in the past, people in the village flocked to the South to do business.
About 10 years ago, realizing the pristine beauty of the village suitable for tourism development, many households registered to do community tourism and went out to learn about local tourism development experiences.
Households are trained in basic English to be able to communicate with international guests, and are taught how to prepare and cook standard meals to serve tourists.
Community tourism is being developed in Kho Muong
Village chief Ha Van Thao said that the village has 62 households, 100% of whom are Thai. The village still retains traditional stilt houses and cultural features of the Thai people, so in recent years the village has promoted the development of community ecotourism.
“Community tourism helps people gradually eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, increase income, improve life, contribute to preserving and promoting the cultural identity and customs of the Thai people.
Therefore, many families have invested in facilities to welcome tourists to come here to experience," said Mr. Thao.
Tourists explore caves in Kho Muong
"Tourism also helps create jobs for dozens of workers in the village, with a stable income of 4-5 million VND per month, such as driving motorbike taxis to take guests to the village, working at homestays, leading tours...", Mr. Thao added.
Currently, Kho Muong village has nearly 10 households participating in community tourism and some households are repairing and building homestays to welcome guests to stay.
