
In 2026, the spring tea harvest in Ban Lien brought joy and a stable income to the local people. Thanks to the development of Shan Tuyet tea plants using organic methods and meeting VietGAP standards, the fresh tea buds are purchased by the Ban Lien Organic Tea Cooperative at prices ranging from 18,000 to 20,000 VND/kg, 2-3 times higher than conventional tea. This is an important driving force helping the Tay ethnic people feel secure in their commitment to tea cultivation and develop a sustainable economy .
Ban Lien commune has unique climatic and soil conditions suitable for growing ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees. The entire commune currently has 1,219 hectares of tea plantations, concentrated in hamlets 1, 2, 3, and 4. In the first quarter of 2026, the locality harvested 65 tons of fresh tea buds, equivalent to 13 tons of dried tea. In addition to selling raw materials, many households also proactively process black tea, selling it at local markets such as Bac Ha and through online channels, bringing in an estimated total revenue of over 500 million VND.

Besides its economic value, Ban Lien Shan Tuyet tea is also famous for its exceptional quality, especially during the spring harvest. The tea has a clear green color, a sweet aftertaste, and a natural aroma, making it popular with consumers. The Shan Tuyet tea from this area has been recognized as a 5-star OCOP product since 2019, affirming its distinctive local brand.
Notably, the spring tea season is also a "golden season" for community tourism development. The lush green tea hills, fresh air, and rich traditional culture of the Tay ethnic group create a unique attraction for Ban Lien. Visitors here can not only visit and experience tea picking and traditional tea processing but also enjoy the delicious taste of spring tea right in the garden.
According to the report of the People's Committee of the commune, in the first quarter of 2026, Ban Lien welcomed 3,919 tourists, including 182 international visitors. This figure shows the potential for developing tourism associated with agriculture , especially experiencing the Shan Tuyet tea growing region.
In recent years, Ban Lien commune has actively coordinated with specialized departments and cooperatives to promote the improvement and enhancement of tea-growing areas, aiming for sustainable organic production. At the same time, the locality has also focused on developing community tourism, homestays, and ecotourism associated with experiencing the ancient tea-growing region.
With its beautiful natural landscapes, unique culture, and high-quality tea products, Ban Lien is gradually establishing itself as an attractive destination on the Lao Cai tourism map, contributing to increased income and improved living standards for people in the highlands.
