From Son Tra to the vast Truong Son mountain range

The most suitable trekking destination for most tourists wanting to experience Da Nang is Son Tra. The two most popular routes chosen by tourists when exploring the forest right in the city are the Thousand-Year-Old Banyan Tree - Mui Nghe (about 8km) and the "Seven Ancient Trees" - Tien Sa Lighthouse (about 12km).

In the "Seven Ancient Trees" forest route, there aren't actually seven fixed trees, but rather a general term for a trekking route through an old-growth forest, where many large ancient trees are interspersed between old concrete roads and forest trails.

After ten minutes away from the city center, the hustle and bustle of urban life gradually gives way to winding forest paths. A clear, open space unfolds, allowing each person to readjust their breathing and pace.

Depending on the chosen route, a combination of slopes, trails, and winding paths under the canopy, the deeper you go, the quieter everything becomes. Only the chirping of birds echoes through the forest, the murmur of streams on the mountainside, and the occasional sound of langurs swinging from branch to branch remain – sounds blending together like a symphony of nature. The scent of damp earth and decaying leaves in the cool breeze soothes fatigue, making each step lighter.

The deeper we went into the forest, the quieter it became. Sunlight filtered through the trees, casting thin streaks on the path. At times, the steep slopes made our breathing quicken, but simply stopping to listen to the wind and our heartbeats seemed to replenish our energy.

Trekking in Son Tra is not about conquering challenges, but rather a leisurely journey, allowing trekkers time to appreciate the subtle movements of nature around them. Leaving Son Tra, each person carries with them a sufficient sense of tranquility, allowing them to return to their daily lives in a more balanced and relaxed state.

If you are truly passionate about and experienced in trekking, the Trường Sơn mountain range is a captivating route for tourists.

Recently, K'lang Adventure has launched several unique trekking tours such as "Exploring the Mossy Forest and K'lang Peak," "Conquering K'lang Peak" (Hung Son commune), "Exploring Aur, the Happy Village in the Truong Son Forest" (A Vuong commune)... The majestic beauty of traversing the mossy forest or touching the pristine rhododendron forest at an altitude of about 2,000m above sea level is enough to overwhelm anyone who experiences it.

According to a representative from K'lang Adventure, tours at this level typically last 2-3 days, include a guide and porter, and involve relatively easy terrain, but visitors need to prepare physically beforehand.

“The most popular tour is trekking to the summit of K’lang to see the rhododendron flowers. The participants are mostly domestic tourists, mostly young people. There are also some foreign tourists who want to try this experience, however, obtaining permits for international tourists to experience these areas is still difficult due to their proximity to the border,” a representative from K’lang Adventure informed.

Great potential

According to Mr. Le Quoc Viet, Chairman of the Quang Nam Destination Club (Da Nang City Tourism Association), there are still many attractive trekking routes in the rural and mountainous areas of Da Nang, connected to various destinations, such as the forest route from Tra Ly lotus field (Duy Xuyen commune) - My Son temple complex (Thu Bon commune) - Tay Vien hot spring (Nong Son commune).

"Besides its scenic beauty, this route also holds many valuable stories and unique aspects of Champa culture. If properly renovated and operated, tourists, especially international visitors who love exploring the nature and culture of Quang Nam province, will highly appreciate this journey," Mr. Viet commented.

The unique feature of many of the local forests with relatively simple and moderately sized pathways is the presence of their distinctive flora and fauna.

The Hon Do area (Tam My commune) boasts a population of over 70 gray-footed langurs. Some forests in the Tra My mountain region are densely populated with ginseng and ginseng seedling nurseries. Meanwhile, along the road surrounding Cu Lao Cham (Tan Hiep island commune), there are many heritage trees such as banyan and paulownia trees, and a thriving population of monkeys…

According to travel businesses, this is one of the important conditions for promoting trekking tourism. More importantly, these trekking tours are not just about relaxation and improving health, but can also be linked to cultural tourism and educational tourism.

Within the group of ecotourism products (part of the spatial development orientation for tourism and key products) according to the adjusted Da Nang City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, it is also determined to encourage the formation of new services such as mountain climbing tours (trekking) combined with community tourism and sports and entertainment services, and glamping (high-quality camping) in areas with suitable terrain and sufficient safety conditions for service activities.

This opens up opportunities to explore tourism potential in the midland and mountainous regions, ensuring minimal impact on the environment and local culture.
