According to the 2026 World Cup format , teams will play a round-robin tournament in the group stage to determine rankings. The top two teams in each group and the eight best third-placed teams will qualify for the Round of 16.
In the event of a tie in points among multiple teams in the group stage, the tie-breaking criteria used for ranking are head-to-head performance (calculated separately based on points, goal difference, and the number of goals scored in direct matches between the tied teams). If two teams are tied in all of the above criteria, the organizers will consider the goal difference and the total number of goals scored in all three matches.
When all other tie-breaking criteria are irrelevant, the teams are ranked according to their position on the latest FIFA World Rankings.

France

Norway is ranked 31st in the FIFA rankings. This is the fourth time the team has participated in the World Cup. Norway's best performance was reaching the round of 16 in 1998 before a 28-year absence.

Iraq

Iraq had to play a total of 21 matches to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. They topped Group F in the second qualifying round, finished third in the third qualifying round (one point behind Jordan), second in the fourth qualifying round, and beat UAE in the fifth qualifying round. In the intercontinental play-off, Iraq defeated Bolivia.

The Iraqi national team is ranked 57th in the FIFA rankings. This is only Iraq's second appearance at the World Cup (their previous appearance was in 1986).

Senegal

In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the African region, Senegal topped Group B with an unbeaten record (7 wins, 3 draws) against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Togo, Mauritania, and South Sudan, conceding only 3 goals.

On the FIFA rankings, this team is currently ranked 14th. This is Senegal's fourth appearance at the World Cup. Their best performance was reaching the quarter-finals in their first appearance (in 2002), where they caused a shock with a victory over France.
