Unique and strange products attract buyers
According to VTC News reporters, the moon cake market in Ho Chi Minh City is seeing the emergence of "unique" and strange product lines that attract consumers.
At a moon cake shop on Vo Van Kiet Street (Cau Kho Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), imported cakes from Malaysia are being offered by staff at prices ranging from VND865,000 to VND2 million per box. Of these, high-end boxes costing from VND1.5 to VND2 million are designed very elaborately and meticulously.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan, a representative of the point of sale, said that imported moon cakes from Malaysia are "attracting more customers" than some other types of cakes on the market due to their new flavors and "unique" box designs.
“ Mooncakes are kept in luxurious, sparkling crystal cabinets or in exquisitely designed boxes. This is the reason why consumers prefer imported mooncakes even though they are more expensive than other types of cakes,” said Mr. Nhan.
According to Mr. Nhan, high-end moon cakes are suitable for giving as gifts to partners and relatives because of their delicious, soft quality. Moon cake fillings are also very diverse, typically Matcha cake with red bean Mochi filling, rose cake with red bean filling, bamboo charcoal cake with lotus seed filling, Lava Chocolate melting cake...
According to Mr. Nhan, this year, his company has imported about 20,000 cakes (equivalent to 5,000 boxes) to serve consumers during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The retail price of the cakes ranges from 195,000 to 320,000 VND/cake. As of early September, more than 60% of the company's moon cakes have been sold out.

According to VTC News, many high-end mooncake stores in District 1, District 3, and District 10 are selling imported mooncakes from Malaysia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong for VND1-2 million per box. Many 5-star hotels in Ho Chi Minh City are also offering high-end mooncakes for VND1.3-1.5 million per box.
Consumers are quite fond of these types of cakes because of their uniqueness and rarity in the market. In addition, imported moon cakes or those prepared by chefs of 5-star hotels also have a more meticulous, eye-catching design and are more attractive to buyers.

Ms. Nguyen Huong Giang, owner of a restaurant in District 1, said that this year, she ordered 50 boxes of moon cakes to give to the restaurant's partners. The criteria of quality and "uniqueness" are the most important factors for her to order cakes. Therefore, imported moon cakes are the company's choice this year.
“ My partners are mainly senior managers of many businesses. Therefore, the gifts for them must be commensurate with our strong and long-standing relationship,” said Ms. Giang.
According to Mr. Vo Hong Quan, representative of a garment company in Tan Binh district, he has just ordered more than 30 boxes of “rare” moon cakes imported from Malaysia to give to the company’s outstanding employees. This is to show the company’s gratitude and respect for its workers.
Big businesses are also constantly changing.
Realizing the increasing demand for new and unique products from consumers, large enterprises are not out of the "game".
Mr. Anil Viswanathan, General Director of Mondelez Kinh Do Vietnam, shared that new, high-quality and creative mooncake products will better meet the needs of consumers for enjoyment and gifting. Therefore, this enterprise has launched 25 new designs with more than 70 different flavors to help people have more choices.
“ This Mid-Autumn Festival, customers can enjoy our limited edition crab mooncakes with unique and creative designs. We also put cookie cutters in the boxes to help customers divide the mooncakes into equal pieces more easily. Although this is a very small detail, we want to bring the most satisfaction to our customers, ” said Mr. Anil Viswanathan.
According to Mr. Anil Viswanathan, the diversity of product designs and flavors is the "key" for this business to meet all gifting and enjoyment needs of people.

Besides new, high-end, unique products, most people still have a need for “affordable” products. Realizing this, the Winmart/Winmart+ supermarket system immediately “jumped” into the market.
Winmart/Winmart+ system is aiming to launch more than 1 million moon cakes at reasonable prices. Specifically, a box of 4 cakes costs only 220,000 - 300,000 VND/box. The "affordable" cakes will have traditional fillings such as: red bean with salted egg, green bean with lotus seed, roasted chicken with ham, taro with salted egg...
