On July 9, Nha Trang Bay Management Board announced the appearance of fire jellyfish at Nha Trang beaches.
During the summer, the Nha Trang Bay Management Board regularly sends staff to use loudspeakers along the beaches to warn swimmers about the risks of jellyfish stings. The Nha Trang Bay Management Board recommends that when stung by jellyfish, residents and tourists should follow these instructions: Immediately remove the person stung from the jellyfish danger zone, remove tentacles attached to the skin with clean tools; limit touching the sting to avoid spreading infection to the wound; wash the sting with vinegar or seawater to clean away the toxins.
In addition, people stung by jellyfish can use substances such as ammonia, alcohol, soda, or apply cold compresses to the affected areas. Absolutely do not use fresh water to wash the wound because it will increase the toxicity. In addition, you can take painkillers, antihistamines and apply creams containing corticosteroids.
If a person stung by a jellyfish has severe symptoms such as swelling, vomiting, abdominal pain, low blood pressure, etc., they should be taken to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment.
According to the Institute of Oceanography in Nha Trang, there are many types of poisonous jellyfish that, if in contact with human skin, can cause rashes and even death if not treated promptly.
Some types of poisonous jellyfish include the wasp jellyfish (the most poisonous of the 51 types of box jellyfish). When touching this type of jellyfish, the victim feels a burning sensation like touching a hot iron bar, severe pain; the skin area in contact quickly shows signs of blistering, dark red or purple bruises.
In addition, there are other types of jellyfish such as ring jellyfish, fire jellyfish, etc. When touching these types of jellyfish, the victim will suffer mild burns, and in severe cases, it can lead to heart cell necrosis leading to death due to circulatory failure.
