In Bang Ca commune (Ha Long City), one of the traditional cultural features that has been preserved to this day is the art of brocade embroidery, showcasing the skill and talent of the Dao Thanh Y ethnic women.

Having learned embroidery at the age of 12, Ms. Ly Thi Mai from Bang Ca commune has been dedicated to the craft of brocade embroidery for over 60 years. She shared: "I've been passionate about embroidery since I was a child; it seems like every stitch has become ingrained in my blood without me even realizing it. Although I'm old and my eyesight is failing, I still want to pass on this craft to the villagers, especially the children. During the summer holidays, the commune often organizes embroidery classes for the children. Many children learn very quickly and can skillfully embroider simple products. Seeing their passion, I want to teach them even more, to preserve the traditional culture of our people."

In recent times, Bang Ca commune has incorporated the education and promotion of the traditional cultural values of the Dao Thanh Y ethnic group into its resolutions and plans. Classes teaching brocade embroidery, folk songs, and folk dances have been opened for students and young people, taught by renowned artisans. Wearing traditional clothing is required, even mandatory, during village festivals and community activities. The commune also encourages many couples to wear traditional attire at their weddings.

Preserving and maintaining traditional cultural features, Van Don district is also one of the localities with many innovative and creative approaches to preserving and promoting the intangible cultural values of ethnic groups. The district has built a Cultural and Sports Center combined with a San Diu Traditional House in Vong Tre village, Binh Dan commune, with an area of nearly 800m2, to implement the "Pilot project on building, preserving and promoting the cultural identity of 4 ethnic minority villages associated with community tourism development in the mountainous area of Quang Ninh province, giai đoạn 2023-2025". Through this, it has contributed to helping the San Diu people in the area to better preserve their ethnic identity, while maintaining the development of ethnic minority villages such as: preserving Soong Co melodies, folk games, folk literature and language, traditional crafts, the coming-of-age ceremony, the Hanh Quang dance, folk songs, folk dances, the Dai Phan festival, etc.

In addition, Binh Dan commune has established a Soong Co singing club, attracting many young people to participate; maintaining traditional culinary products, ancestor worship rituals, weddings, housewarming ceremonies, coming-of-age ceremonies, etc. This has also attracted tourists to learn about and explore the lifestyle of the San Diu ethnic group, creating momentum for the commune to develop community tourism linked to the socio-economic development of the locality.

To restore, preserve, and promote traditional cultural values, on May 10, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 125/KH-UBND on the implementation of the Project "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" under the National Target Program for socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas giai đoạn 2021-2030, Phase I from 2021-2025 (implementation in 2024-2025).

During the 2024-2025 period, the province will implement 15 key tasks, including: surveying, inventorying, collecting, and documenting the traditional cultural heritage of ethnic minorities; organizing the preservation and promotion of typical traditional festivals of ethnic minorities, exploiting and developing products to serve tourism development; supporting investment in building typical tourist destinations in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; supporting the widespread dissemination and promotion of typical traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities combined with research and surveys of tourism potential, selecting and developing characteristic tourism products for ethnic minority and mountainous areas... Thereby, contributing to the development of tourism associated with the preservation and promotion of the traditional cultural values of the people of Quang Ninh.
