According to the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development, on the afternoon of May 29, six working groups of the Market Management Department simultaneously inspected large business locations in many different areas of the Saigon Square Trade Center.

Small traders avoid but thousands of products are still detained

The Department of Domestic Market Management and Development said that when they learned that the authorities were inspecting, many small traders at Saigon Square quickly closed their stalls to avoid being detected.

Even as soon as the inspection team appeared, the security team's walkie-talkie system at Saigon Square was immediately activated, and an announcement was made via internal loudspeaker to warn the merchants to close their shops, making it difficult to inspect and handle violations.

However, by using professional measures, market management forces quickly arrived at pre-planned locations and promptly prevented this act of resistance and evasion.

The inspection team initially recorded a series of products for sale bearing famous brands such as Rolex, Longines, Patek Philippe watches; handbags and wallets of LV, Gucci, Dior, YSL, Celine, Goyard, Chanel, Hermès, Bottega Veneta, Prada; and many models of glasses with Gucci labels...

However, all of these products show signs of counterfeiting genuine goods, seriously affecting the interests of consumers as well as the reputation of protected brands in Vietnam.

According to the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development, IPT Intellectual Property Consulting Company Limited - the representative unit for trademark protection for famous brands such as Rolex, BVLGARI, Chanel... - said that most of the products the inspection team is handling show signs of counterfeiting trademarks protected by the company.

Specifically, goods sold at some stalls have packaging that does not meet the company's standards, the stitching is messy and uneven... Notably, these products are sold at prices much lower than genuine products.

In addition, many law offices and law firms representing intellectual property for trademarks are also present at Saigon Square to identify signs of infringement of goods at business establishments.

Due to the large quantity of goods, the authorities continued to count the number of violating goods until the evening of the same day. It is estimated that the number of violating goods is up to thousands of products.

Will continue to strengthen inspection

Mr. Tran Viet Hung, Head of the Market Management Department, said this is one of the typical cases during the peak month implemented by the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development.

"Inspection activities at Saigon Square will continue to be carried out by authorities in the coming time because this is a central area, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists when coming to Ho Chi Minh City."

According to the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development, laxity in local management not only leads to violations in the trading of goods, but also damages consumer confidence. This also negatively impacts the business environment of legitimate enterprises.

Previously, during an inspection at the end of 2024, thousands of counterfeit products of famous brands at Saigon Square Shopping Center were also discovered and seized by authorities, showing that the violations are still complicated and show signs of recurring despite having been handled many times.
