Barca needs 47 million euros to register new players

Barcelona faces a familiar but equally difficult challenge: solving the financial problem of signing new players.

Barca are still in financial trouble.

After completing the Joan Garcia deal and preparing to activate Nico Williams' €62m release clause in early July, the Catalan team must collect at least €47m if they want these two contracts to officially participate in La Liga next season.

A return to La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule is a must, which requires that for every euro spent on wages or transfers, Barca must earn a corresponding euro. Last December, the board believed they had achieved this requirement after selling the rights to 475 VIP seats at the future Camp Nou for €100 million.

However, due to doubts from internal audits, La Liga required all relevant items to be completed by June 30. Barca confirmed this has been done.

However, the club still lacks around €30m to sign new players. This figure has been partly narrowed by the profits from previous deals such as Todibo, Alex Valle, Ilaix Moriba, Ludovit Reis and Jutgla. The club believes that the remaining amount can be made up through the resale clauses in the deals for Trincao, Mingueza and Marmol - players who still have liquidation value on the market.

Many Barca players are on very high salaries.

The biggest obstacle for Barca is still the wage bill. Players who are no longer in the plan will have to leave if the club wants to make room for new contracts. Among them, Ansu Fati is considered the key.

The Spanish striker is very close to joining Monaco in a deal that is said to be close to completion. In addition, the likes of Ter Stegen, Oriol Romeu, Christensen, Pablo Torre, Pau Víctor and Inaki Pena could also be sacrificed.

In the ideal scenario, Barca would like to sell Ronald Araujo - a highly valued centre-back. If the deal goes through, the Montjuïc outfit would both have a large source of revenue and free up a significant amount of money in their wages - making it easier to sign Nico Williams and Joan García.

La Liga recently changed its rules to allow clubs that exceed the wage cap to register players for a season, even if they have not yet balanced their long-term finances . However, Barcelona do not want to resort to this “stopgap solution”, believing that the departures will bring in enough resources before the deadline.

On the other hand, Barca is still actively renewing contracts with key players. Hansi Flick and the new coaching staff have been renewed, while important players such as Lamine Yamal and Raphinha have been retained. Names such as Frenkie de Jong, Eric Garcia and Szczesny are still being monitored to make a final decision.

A summer of excitement in Catalonia is about to begin. But rather than big announcements, Barca’s future depends on a clean-up of the books – where every euro counts.
