Frenkie De Jong's future at Barcelona is at a crossroads, as the club's management is beginning to lose patience with the Dutch midfielder.

Despite reaching an agreement to reduce his salary to around 8 million euros net per season, on par with Pedri and Raphinha, De Jong has yet to sign a new contract.

This delay annoyed Deco. Barca's sporting director wanted to finalize the future as soon as possible so that coach Hansi Flick could prepare for the new season with stability.

According to the new policy introduced by President Joan Laporta, any player with one year remaining on their contract who has not yet renewed will not be allowed to play - except for older players (like Robert Lewandowski), reserves, or those who only sign on a year-by-year basis due to Barca's financial constraints.

De Jong is no exception. He has had a strong resurgence under Hansi Flick and is now a regular starter.

The problem is that De Jong has just sacked his agent. The former Ajax player has not yet announced who his new manager will be.

This is what has delayed all procedures in the new contract negotiation process. However, this has not diminished Barca's determination to put pressure on the player to finalize the paperwork as soon as possible.

According to Don Balon, Deco sent a very clear message: if there is no breakthrough in the next few days, De Jong will not be included in the opening match of the La Liga season.

This is a tense scenario that neither side wants.
