Mr. Laporta affirmed that Barcelona would not face strict restrictions related to the league's spending regulations. In an interview with TV3 , the Barcelona president stated: “The 1:1 rule is set by the La Liga committee, and we anticipate earning 950 million euros this season. The budget for next season will exceed 1 billion euros, and we are looking to generate more revenue than losses, so we are confident in achieving the 1:1 ratio.”
The 1:1 rule in La Liga allows teams to use all the money earned from selling players for transfers without any limitations. Simply put, if Barcelona earns €100 million from selling players or any other source, they are allowed to spend the same amount on new players in the transfer market.
Previously, Barcelona had to operate on a 1:4 rule, meaning they were only allowed to spend 1 unit of currency for every 4 units of currency earned.
Reaching the later stages of the Champions League and winning a domestic treble this season has resulted in revenue exceeding expectations for the Catalan club. In addition, Barcelona also secured an unexpected windfall this season when they decided to sell 475 VIP seats at their future Camp Nou stadium to two companies for €100 million.
According to ESPN , Barcelona are expected to sign a central defender, a full-back, and a winger to enhance their competitiveness in the Champions League next season. The team may increase their transfer budget by selling players who are no longer part of their plans.
