The Mirror reported that the aforementioned group of Britons were fishing in Mequinenza, northeastern Spain, earlier last week. They were stunned to catch a Wels catfish weighing over 110 kg and measuring more than 2 meters in length. According to a tour guide, this was the largest catfish he had ever seen.
Even local residents came to congratulate the British group. The catfish was later released back into the water and was still alive.

Daniel Storey, 31, who lives in Carlisle, England, and has been fishing for 10 years, shared that he was surprised to catch such a huge catfish.
"Catching a giant fish is like something you dream of. I've never seen anything like it. I think it's quite special because of my friends' reaction," Daniel exclaimed.
Daniel caught the catfish during a week-long fishing trip with two friends, Lewis Pattinson and Martin Irwin, both 32 years old. It took them about 40 minutes to bring the fish ashore from the Segre River using a boat.
The Wels catfish is known to weigh up to nearly 140 kg.
Peter Irwin, 41, from Monster Catfishing Tours, the company that operated the fishing trip, was also present with the British group at the time.
He said, "It's a once-in-a-lifetime event. I've seen people come here to fish for 20 years, but I've never caught a fish that big. It's truly a lucky day for them."
The Wels catfish has a long, gray body and large eyes and mouth. This species typically feeds on fish and birds.
