In fact, it is quite surprising that on many tourist routes, ticket prices have "cooled down" and the booking rate is still quite low. |
According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the booking rate for the period from June 15 to July 15, 2024 is at a low average level, the booking rate on the adjacent days is higher but only appears on some routes connecting tourist destinations from localities.
Many low prices
On a number of websites, Vietnamese airlines have announced many ticket prices for operating flights, many of which are significantly lower than the maximum price prescribed for basic economy class on domestic flights.
For example, the ticket price for the weekend departure on June 15, the flight with a high booking rate such as Hanoi-Quy Nhon, the airlines have prices excluding taxes and fees ranging from 1.9 million VND (Bamboo Airways) to 2.4 million VND ( Vietnam Airlines ), equivalent to 67-83% of the maximum rate according to regulations (2.89 million VND). For the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route, the ticket price excluding taxes and fees ranges from 2.7 million VND ( Vietnam Airlines ) to 3.4 million VND (Vietjet Air), equivalent to 69-87% of the maximum rate according to regulations (4 million VND).
With further departure dates, more and more low fares are announced by airlines for passengers to choose from.
“It can be seen that when planning to book flight tickets early and far from the departure date, in addition to having more opportunities to book seats on flights, passengers will also have more options for prices suitable to their conditions and travel needs,” said the leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
In addition, passengers planning their travel and choosing to book tickets early also creates conditions for Vietnamese airlines to arrange resources, optimize aircraft operations, limit flight cancellations and reduce pressure in the context of the current shrinking fleet of airlines.
Specifically, the average booking rate on flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to other localities reached more than 50% on days close to and falling on weekends (June 15 to 17), with the rate fluctuating at only 20-40% on further days.
Some tourist routes from Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City have higher than average rates such as Hanoi-Quy Nhon (80.7% on June 15; 72.5% on June 16), Hanoi-Phu Quoc (74.9% on June 15), Hanoi-Nha Trang (73.3% on June 15 and 64.9% on June 16), Ho Chi Minh City-Nha Trang (77.7% on June 15), Ho Chi Minh City-Dien Bien (78.3% on June 15).
On flights from localities to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the booking rate also recorded a similar development, with an average booking rate of more than 60% on the days leading up to the date and 20-40% on the days further away.
Flights from localities with prominent tourist destinations also have some routes with higher rates, such as Nha Trang-Hanoi (70.5% on June 15; 75.7% on June 16), Hue-Hanoi (76.9% on June 15; 93.4% on June 16), Quy Nhon-Hanoi (89.4% on June 15; 87.5% on June 16), Dong Hoi-Ho Chi Minh City (82.5% on June 15; 88.3% on June 16).
Airfares will increase by 3-7%
Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Do Hong Cam said that according to research and assessment by the Association of Asia-Pacific Airlines (AAPA), airfares in the world today and in the near future will tend to increase higher than before.
“With airlines facing high fuel costs, changes in sustainability, fleet upgrades, additional leasing/purchase, aircraft maintenance, labor shortages, airport service prices, etc. continuing as they are now, global airfares are forecast to increase by 3-7% in 2024 and will continue to increase in the following years,” Mr. Cam said.
The Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that in the first 5 months of 2024, the total air passenger market is estimated to reach 38.1 million passengers, an increase of 6.7% over the same period in 2023 and equal to 98% over the same period in 2019. Of which, the international market reached 21.1 million passengers, an increase of 44.3% over the same period in 2022 and an increase of 3% over the same period in 2019; the domestic market alone reached 17 million passengers, a decrease of 19.4% over the same period in 2023 and equal to 92% over the same period in 2019.
Identifying the difficulties and challenges in 2024, the Vietnamese aviation industry has promptly implemented solutions to minimize negative impacts and ensure appropriate supply. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has created conditions for airlines to increase operations and optimize the exploitation of existing aircraft fleets; speed up the process of searching and negotiating to lease additional aircraft during peak periods; ensure effective coordination of take-off and landing times; adjust the operating time of aircraft during the day of airlines in reducing aircraft turnaround time to transfer flights.
The Civil Aviation Authority also strengthens inspection, supervision, and guidance on the proper implementation of regulations on passenger transport prices, while encouraging airlines to research, reduce costs, and implement promotional policies and fare incentives for passengers on appropriate domestic routes,...
