Temporarily detained commune secretary and subordinates for embezzling more than half a billion dong

On May 30, the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Province issued a decision to prosecute the case and an arrest warrant for Tran Huu Duc, Party Secretary - Chairman of the People's Committee of My Hiep Commune (former Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan My Commune) and Phan Thai Thanh, Accountant of the People's Committee of Tan My Commune, Cho Moi District, An Giang Province, for embezzlement of property.

After a period of verification, collection of evidence and approval by the People's Procuracy of the same level for the decision to prosecute the accused, the arrest warrant for temporary detention and the search decision, recently, the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Province simultaneously executed arrest warrants and searched 10 locations (residences and workplaces) of the two accused Tran Huu Duc and Phan Thai Thanh and 3 other subjects. The investigation agency collected many documents and evidence related to the act of creating fake settlement documents, appropriating the State budget with an amount of more than 550 million VND.

Initially, the accused Tran Huu Duc and Phan Thai Thanh confessed to their crimes and those of related people. The case is being further investigated and handled by the Investigation Police Agency of the Provincial Police according to the provisions of law.

Previously, on February 18, the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Province also simultaneously arrested and searched 9 suspects to investigate the act of embezzlement of assets, including: Mr. Ngo Hoang Hieu, Deputy Chief Inspector of the province (former Chairman of the People's Committee of Cho Moi District); Mr. Vu Minh Thao, Vice Chairman of Cho Moi District; Mr. Nguyen Hong Vien, Chairman of the Inspection Committee of Cho Moi District Party Committee; Mr. Le Quoc Dien, Chairman of the People's Committee of Long Dien A Commune; Mr. Luu Van Khon; Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Thanh Commune; Ms. Nguyen Thuy Trang, Accountant of the People's Committee of Hoa An Commune and Mr. Truong Hieu Phuc, 40 years old, Director of Truong Dang Construction Consulting Company Limited; Mr. Duong Minh Tam, 50 years old, Director of Thuan Tri Construction Consulting Company Limited; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phu, 58 years old, Director of Huu Thinh Construction Company Limited.
