From 2026, passengers purchasing air tickets departing from Singapore will have to pay an additional sustainable aviation fuel fee, ranging from 0.77 to 31.92 USD per ticket, depending on the seat class and destination, according to an announcement on November 10 by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).
This fee will apply to tickets sold from 1 April 2026 for flights departing from Singapore on or after 1 October 2026. This fee does not apply to transit passengers and is only charged to the next destination after departing Singapore.
According to CNA channel, CAAS divided the destinations into four groups in order: Southeast Asia (group 1), Northeast Asia - South Asia - Australia and Papua New Guinea (group 2), Africa - Central and West Asia - Europe - Middle East - Pacific Islands - New Zealand (group 3), and Americas (group 4).
Passengers flying within Southeast Asia will pay $0.77 for economy class and $3.07 for premium class, while those flying to group 2 destinations will pay $2.15 and $8.60, respectively; group 3 $4.91 and $19.65, and group 4 $7.98 and $31.92.
The fees collected will go into a fund to purchase sustainable aviation fuel. CAAS Director General Han Kok Juan said the fees would be kept stable for the first few years before being reviewed.
Mr Han also stressed that this is "an important step towards a greener and more competitive aviation hub for Singapore".
