From 2026, passengers purchasing tickets for flights departing from Singapore will have to pay an additional sustainable aviation fuel surcharge, ranging from US$0.77 to US$31.92 per ticket, depending on class and destination, according to an announcement on November 10 by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).
This fee will apply to tickets sold from April 1, 2026, for flights departing from Singapore on or after October 1, 2026. This fee does not apply to transit passengers and is only charged based on the next destination after leaving Singapore.
According to CNA, CAAS has divided destinations into four groups in the following order: Southeast Asia (group 1), Northeast Asia - South Asia - Australia and Papua New Guinea (group 2), Africa - Central and West Asia - Europe - Middle East - Pacific Islands - New Zealand (group 3), and the Americas (group 4).
Passengers flying within Southeast Asia will pay $0.77 for economy class and $3.07 for premium class, while flights to destinations in group 2 will cost $2.15 and $8.60 respectively; group 3 $4.91 and $19.65; and group 4 $7.98 and $31.92.
The fees collected will go into a fund for purchasing sustainable aviation fuel. CAAS Director General Han Kok Juan said the fee will remain stable for the first few years before being reviewed.
Mr. Han also emphasized that this is "an important step towards a greener and more competitive aviation hub for Singapore."
