Bayern Munich are stepping up their search for a successor to Manuel Neuer – the veteran goalkeeper who will turn 40 next spring.
Bayern Munich's contract with Neuer also expires at the end of the season, and the chances of an extension are low.

According to German media reports, Bayern's plan is to recruit Mike Maignan from AC Milan to replace the legendary German goalkeeper.
Maignan is one of the best goalkeepers in the world today, the first-choice goalkeeper for AC Milan and the French national team.
Milan's contract with Maignan is also entering its final months.
From the end of the 2024/25 season, Milan intended to extend Maignan's contract but failed to reach an agreement – primarily due to the compelling nature of the project rather than the salary.
Milan is still in a transitional phase, lacking big stars and setting modest goals. For his part, the 30-year-old French goalkeeper wants to showcase his talent in the Champions League.
Bayern Munich is considered the ideal environment for Maignan. The Allianz Arena team boasts a top-tier squad in Europe and has ambitions to win the most prestigious title in European football .
Bayern Munich officials want to reach an agreement with Maignan by January and bring him to Allianz Arena in the summer of 2026 – after the World Cup in North America.
From England, Manchester United and Chelsea were also interested in signing Maignan. However, Bayern Munich was the team that took the lead.
