This morning, international sources said that the film Inside the Golden Cocoon by director Pham Thien An will be shown in the North American market, with independent film distributor Kino Lorber purchasing the copyright to distribute there. However, the source only stated in general that Kino Lorber only plans to show it in theaters as well as on multiple platforms without giving a specific date.
Contacting Mr. Thi Tran about the film's release in foreign markets, he said: "In fact, Kino Lorber has signed to buy the copyright to release in the US market, but they are still planning to release it in theaters and have not yet set a specific date. As for the multi-platform release, there is no exact information yet."
The movie Inside the Golden Cocoon will be shown in Vietnamese theaters from August 11.
After winning the Golden Camera (Caméra d'Or) award at the Cannes Film Festival in late May, the film was shown in Paris for a week, then is scheduled to be shown in theaters in France on September 13.
In Vietnamese theaters, the film is distributed by CGV and the current screening date is August 11th at many theaters in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Da Nang and Bao Loc - Lam Dong. The screening time at Vietnamese theaters lasts from August to September.
Kino Lorber praised the three-hour film, which is about to be released to American audiences. The studio commented that Inside the Golden Cocoon "relentlessly explores the persistent contradictions in human belief, not only in the spiritual life but also in the fragile beauty of the world."
The film tells the story of Thien (played by Le Phong Vu) bringing his sister's body and his nephew named Dao back to find his brother; the journey makes Thien think about life, beliefs in life... Inside the Golden Cocoon was developed from the short film Stay Awake, Be Ready , also directed by Pham Thien An.
