Minh Son commune is the hottest locality with African swine fever in Do Luong district at present.
Arriving at Minh Son commune on the morning of June 3, we noticed that the work of preventing African swine fever here is not drastic, there is still a state of negligence and laxity. In Yen Dong hamlet - one of the hamlets currently ravaged by African swine fever, many households have suffered heavy losses. However, according to observations, the main roads connecting from N5 road have no epidemic control posts, no signs of epidemic areas, and no lime powder has been sprinkled for disinfection. The situation of people transporting pigs in and out of the area is normal.

People in Yen Dong hamlet are worried that, with the complicated developments of African swine fever, if the local government does not take drastic measures to prevent the disease, the hamlet's pigs will have to be destroyed soon. Many households in the hamlet have destroyed all their pigs, such as Mr. Nguyen Quang Hue's family destroyed 2 sows; Nguyen Dinh Khanh destroyed 1 sow; Nguyen Duc Thang destroyed 2 sows... due to the disease.

In addition to farming and raising buffalo and cows, people in Minh Son commune also have a lot of experience in raising pigs, including breeding sows. However, African swine fever has caused losses for many households. According to data from the People's Committee of Minh Son commune, from April 2025 to June 3, 161 pigs in the commune had to be destroyed due to African swine fever, with a total weight of more than 16 tons.

According to Mr. Hoang Thanh Vy - civil servant of Land Administration - Agriculture and Construction of Minh Son commune, at the beginning of 2025, the whole commune had 882 pigs, but in just 2 months, the locality was forced to destroy 161 pigs, of which 125 were sows, the rest were pigs for meat. What is worrying is that the epidemic has now spread to 7/7 hamlets of the whole commune. The most numerous are Hoi Long, Yen Dong, Van Quang hamlets... Accordingly, the commune has also allocated 25 million VND from the budget to buy lime powder and hire excavators to dig holes to destroy the pigs. The district has also provided hundreds of liters of chemicals for disinfection work.
“Minh Son has three national highways running through the area: National Highways 7B, 7C and 15A and many other routes. The commune has not yet set up epidemic control checkpoints in hamlets, so the control of pig transportation has not been implemented. This is also a loophole for people to transport pigs in and out of the epidemic area,” said Mr. Hoang Thanh Vy.
Assessing the cause of the re-emergence of African swine fever in Minh Son commune, many opinions said that it was due to the residual pathogen in the environment; Most of the people raised livestock on a small scale, while the people's disease prevention work was not focused on. Previously, in 2019, Minh Son commune was the first locality to have African swine fever in Do Luong district.

Since April, African swine fever has re-emerged in 10 communes of Do Luong district: Minh Son, Tan Son, Thuong Son, Thai Son, Tru Son, Hoa Son, Hien Son, Dai Son, Dong Son and Trung Son. The total weight of pigs destroyed is more than 67 tons.
Nghe An is currently implementing solutions according to Decision No. 3385/QD-UBND dated October 1, 2020 on the Plan for African swine fever prevention and control for the period 2020-2025. Accordingly, commune-level authorities are required to set up temporary quarantine checkpoints, mobile teams to control the transportation of animals and animal products; fully prepare supplies, chemicals, equipment and forces ready to respond when the epidemic breaks out.
