Dr. Lies said Mr. Fajri had been treated for about a week and that 16 specialists were involved in the case.
"It's very unusual for a person to become so big. It puts a lot of pressure on the body's metabolism. His lungs and heart will have difficulty functioning, especially since he doesn't move around much," Dr. Lies said at a press conference on June 14 when the patient was admitted to the hospital. The hospital director said the patient had multiple infected wounds on his skin and was having difficulty breathing.
Ms Lies said the hospital had treated many obese patients, including a boy who weighed 192kg. However, Fajri’s condition was much worse as the young man had difficulty breathing and many other complications.
Fajri was taken to a hospital in Tangerang city two weeks ago before being transferred to a hospital in Jakarta.
Fajri was so heavy that he could not move, so a forklift had to be used to lift him into a pickup truck before he was taken to the hospital. A local official said it took two hours to lift the patient into the truck. The door of the house was also smashed to make way.
A local doctor told Kompas that the patient's obesity was due to excessive calorie intake and lack of exercise.
