Bitcoin surpasses $80,000, reaching a three-month high.

Bitcoin prices have returned above the $80,000 mark in Asian markets, amid stock markets nearing record highs.

Specifically, as of the morning of May 4th, Singapore time, the price of Bitcoin had increased by 1.9% to $80,393 per Bitcoin, its highest level since January 31st. Other cryptocurrencies such as Ether also recorded similar positive developments.

The cryptocurrency market rally comes as the MSCI Asia Pacific stock index approaches its all-time high, recorded in February 2026, just before the US-Israel and Iran conflicts erupted. Investor sentiment is bolstered after tech companies released better-than-expected earnings results last week, helping to sustain the sector's upward momentum.

Regarding the Middle East, the market is receiving conflicting information. US President Donald Trump announced that the US would begin guiding ships not involved in the conflict through the Strait of Hormuz. However, a report from AFP indicates that Iran has warned it will consider any US intervention in the region a violation of the ceasefire.

After reaching a record high of over $126,000 per bitcoin in October 2025, bitcoin experienced a prolonged downturn, falling to as low as $60,000 per bitcoin in February 2026. Since then, the cryptocurrency has gradually recovered thanks to demand from financial institutions.

The cryptocurrency investment fund DACM said investors are anticipating regulations on stablecoin interest rates in the US. These are cryptocurrencies designed to maintain stable value, typically pegged to physical assets like the US dollar or gold. If successful, this regulation could pave the way for the passage of major cryptocurrency bills in the Senate.

DACM emphasizes that although things are still in their early stages, the $80,000 mark for one bitcoin has long been considered a significant "psychological barrier" for traders. Similarly, liquidity provider Orbit Markets believes that bitcoin breaking above $80,000 will be a positive catalyst, paving the way for the growth of the entire cryptocurrency asset class in the near future.
