Ministry of Transport responds to proposal to plan Ha Long railway route

According to the Railway Network Planning, the Ha Long - Cai Lan route is oriented for investment after 2030, said the Ministry of Transport.

Recently, the Ministry of Transport sent a document to the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province in response to the province's proposal to plan the Ha Long - Mong Cai railway route.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the railway network planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 in Decision No. 1769/2021 of the Prime Minister , the Ha Long - Mong Cai railway line with a length of about 150km is planned for investment after 2030.

Regarding the research and planning of this railway line, in 2023, based on the results of the exchange in high-level meetings between Vietnam and China, the Chinese Government is studying and considering providing non-refundable aid to survey and make detailed plans for the 1,435mm standard gauge railway lines Lang Son - Hanoi, Quang Ninh - Hai Phong.

"In case the Chinese side approves support, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province is requested to direct relevant agencies to closely coordinate with the Vietnam Railway Authority and provide technical advice and support to the Chinese side during the implementation process," the Ministry of Transport proposed.

Previously, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Transport, requesting the Ministry of Transport to assign the Vietnam Railway Authority to plan the Ha Long - Mong Cai railway route or add the Ha Long - Mong Cai section to the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh railway route plan that the Vietnam Railway Authority is implementing as a basis for calling for and promoting investment as well as for managing land funds according to the approved route plan.

According to the planning of Quang Ninh province for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the railway network for the period of 2021-2030 in the province is planned: In addition to the existing Yen Vien - Pha Lai - Ha Long - Cai Lan route, there will be 2 new routes: Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh route (South Hai Phong - Ha Long section) with the starting point at the Hai Phong - Quang Ninh border, the end point at Viet Hung, Ha Long city; Ha Long - Mong Cai route, with 2 branches down to Hon Net - Con Ong seaport and a branch connecting to Hai Ha seaport, the starting point is in Ha Long city, the end point is Mong Cai city.
