Tonight, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang answered reporters' questions about Brazil's announcement that Vietnam has officially become a partner country of the BRICS group.

The spokesperson emphasized: "In the spirit of proactively and actively integrating comprehensively, deeply and effectively into the international community, Vietnam has been and will make practical contributions to multilateral mechanisms, organizations and forums, thereby contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world ."

Along with actively participating in multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), the Group of Seven (G7), the Group of Twenty (G20), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), etc., Vietnam has become a Partner Country of the BRICS Group of Emerging Economies with the desire to make efforts to contribute, enhance the voice and role of developing countries, promote international solidarity, inclusive and comprehensive multilateralism in the spirit of respecting international law.

This also affirms Vietnam's consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification of foreign relations, being a friend, a reliable partner and an active, responsible member of the international community.

Brazil - the country holding the rotating presidency of BRICS in 2025 - highly values Vietnam's population of nearly 100 million and dynamic economy as key factors in its admission.

“Vietnam stands out as an important partner in Asia. It shares the commitment of BRICS members and partners to promote a more just and inclusive international order. Vietnam’s efforts to promote South-South cooperation and sustainable development further strengthen the convergence of interests with the BRICS bloc,” the Brazilian statement said.

BRICS is a group of emerging economies, accounting for more than 40% of the world's population and about a quarter of the world's GDP. The group was founded in 2009 with four initial members: Brazil, Russia, India, and China. BRICS later added South Africa, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Vietnam becomes the 10th country to be recognized as a “partner” of the bloc, alongside Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan. The “partner country” category was created at the 2024 BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, to expand participation without requiring formal membership.
