Central Melody, "On the Sun and Under the Sand"

From the verse in the poem “Central Region” by poet Hoang Tran Cuong: “Central Region/ The folk song lies on its side/ On the sun and under the sand/ Even the song is re-sifted twice…”, young female singer Hoai Phan was inspired to release her first album with the title “On the sun and under the sand”.

The album “On the sun and under the sand” is filled with sweet and profound melodies about the Central region. These are songs by famous musicians that have touched the hearts of many generations of music lovers such as “Ca dao em va toi”, “Ha Tinh we love” (composed by musician An Thuyen), “Nguoi di xay ho Ke Go”, “A song of the heart of a Ha Tinh person” (musician Nguyen Van Ty), “ Quang Binh que ta oi” (musician Hoang Van), “Ca ho ben bo Hien Luong” (musician Hoang Hiep)…

“When I was a child, the wind and sand flew, mixed with the fragrant milk my mother raised me to grow up…” - the lyrics of the song “Ha Tinh we love” are not only a tribute to the homeland, but also a connection between the past and the present, between folk sounds and the modern musical space, a quiet but resonant highlight in the journey of “On the sun and under the sand”. Those are Hoan Phan’s confessions about the song “Ha Tinh we love” as the highlight of the album. She chose the song about her hometown Ha Tinh to string together the songs. And each song, about a locality in the overall picture of the Central region, she has something to share with the audience. To see that, Hoan Phan sang “On the sun and under the sand” from the bottom of her heart as a child of the country.

Hoan Phan's voice is clear, powerful and full of emotion. Her unique Nghe Tinh accent makes the songs about the Central region seem "tailor-made", even though most of the songs are older than her. Many songs that blend folk music colors such as Vi Giam, Ho, Central folk songs... are performed clearly and sincerely by Hoan Phan. For example, with " Ha Tinh Minh Thuong", musician An Thuyen skillfully combined Vi Giam folk material with modern lyrical emotions. Hoan Phan, with her powerful voice, conquered the listeners, through the delicate piano arrangement by musician Pham Xuan Binh Son.

The special highlight of this album is that Hoan Phan did not choose the usual folk music style but was recorded in sync with the symphony orchestra and the arrangement of Pham Xuan Binh Son. The melodies become luxurious, sophisticated and attractive with piano, violin... Musician Pham Xuan Binh Son arranged the songs in the spirit of respecting the original, full of symphonic music, but still bringing the simple, rustic breath of the works that inherently carry the breath of Central Vietnamese folk music.

Singer Hoan Phan was born in 2001, the eldest of five children in Ha Tinh, and was nurtured in her love of art by her mother. She graduated from the Hanoi College of Art and is currently a freelance singer. Young and beautiful, Hoan Phan did not choose modern music to pursue but tried her hand at folk music and was quite successful. Her music products posted on social media platforms are viewed by many people. For the young singer, music is a way to preserve, honor and spread the beauty of her homeland to everyone.
