“Hanoi Voice” Khanh Thy:

What is special is that the album has no separate name. The female singer shares about her journey to affirm her path and her desire to bring the most sincere sounds to listeners.

- Khanh Thy was a math major student, and no one in her family was in the arts. What was the turning point that led Khanh Thy to pursue a singing career?

- My choice to pursue art was a decision that was full of struggles for both myself and my family. My parents are civil servants, no one works in this field, so at first they did not support me. I used to study math, took the A block exam, but after much thought and discussion with people in the profession, I realized that my personality and energy are more suitable for art. My father is dynamic, used to participate in movement activities, so he gradually understood and supported the path I chose. From then on, I officially entered music , although late, but very determined. I also found that mathematical thinking helped me a lot in learning music, making career decisions and planning the future.

- What does the Hanoi Singing Contest mean to Khanh Thy?

- Hanoi Singing is where I was discovered and nurtured. From the contest, I fulfilled a part of my dream, received the attention of the audience and the evaluation of the artists. Winning the third prize created a stepping stone for me to release my first album "Yes, I'll Get Married" and then Vol.2. Hanoi Radio and Television - the organizer of the contest, accompanied me throughout the two albums, it was a platform, helping me reach a wider audience.

- Khanh Thy, how do you feel your voice and musical career have developed since joining the contest?

- I think I have reached a certain level of maturity in technique and emotion, and am confident in recording an album. At first, I sang with instinct and raw emotions; after experiencing happiness, suffering, success and failure, I sing more softly, femininely and deeply. Thanks to the guidance of teachers such as People's Artist Ha Thuy, Ngoc Dung, Dang Loan, my voice has been honed and has its own identity. I always study and improve my singing voice, using life experiences to interact with music and touch the hearts of listeners.

I believe music is a long journey. Each artist chooses a different path. I do not seek breakthroughs through tricks but delve into my voice and true emotions. My wish is to have a decent product, so that the audience can recognize my ability. I like ballads, songs with stories to tell, when the market is noisy, I want to bring listeners to gentle, calm emotions.

- Can Khanh Thy introduce the new album Vol.2 - a special album without a specific name?

- Vol.2 includes 11 love songs that evoke youth, nostalgia and the gentle hidden corners of a woman's soul. I don't want to name the album, because each listener can call it by their own feelings. For me, this is a tribute to those who have loved, who have gone through the misty seasons of memories with music. This is also like my artistic declaration: Khanh Thy's music is not bound, but aims for freedom and diversity.

- Why does the album sing music from many generations of authors, from immortal works to contemporary compositions?

- Because I want to connect many generations of audiences, from those who love deep lyrical music to young audiences looking for something new. Album Vol.2 includes works by Minh Ky, Lam Phuong, Truong Sa, Anh Bang and compositions by Duc Tri, Viet Anh, Phan Manh Quynh, Hamlet Truong. This diversity creates a continuous flow of emotions, from nostalgia to modernity, so that the album is both old-fashioned and suitable for today's audiences.

- People's Artist Nguyen Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Hanoi Music Association, commented that Khanh Thy has a "non-greasy" voice, without overusing technology or tricks, but is simple and genuine. What does Khanh Thy think and does she want to keep that?

- I appreciate the comment of People's Artist Quang Vinh. "No oil" to me means a rustic, natural voice, not embellished or industrialized. I want to maintain that sincerity, singing with real emotions. I hope that the audience listening to the recorded album or live will recognize Khanh Thy's voice. I want to be a voice that is trusted, knows how to tell stories through music and dares to experiment but does not lose its identity.

- Khanh Thy can share a little about your upcoming plans?

- I cherished making an album about Da Lat, where I was born and is the land of gentle love songs, suitable for my style. Currently, I am also investing in Vol.2 with 11 MVs synchronized with music to give to the audience. I will continue to learn, maintain simplicity and true love in music to go further.

- Why did Khanh Thy release 2 albums in just 2 years?

- Music for me is a continuous flow. If left too long, the audience may forget. Each product is the crystallization of great effort and I always wonder what I will do next. That urge helps me move forward, work seriously and carefully on each product.
