
Responding to a question about Vietnam's reaction to the US's refusal to recognize the equivalent of 12 Vietnamese seafood fishing occupations, causing these products to be temporarily suspended from import into the United States from January 1, 2026, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated: "On September 15, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien sent a letter to US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, requesting the US Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under the US Department of Commerce to reconsider the decision to refuse to recognize the equivalent of 12 Vietnamese seafood fishing occupations under the US Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) to avoid serious disruptions to bilateral trade and protect the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese fishermen and workers."
According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , in recent times, with the direction of the Government as well as the support of localities, the Vietnamese fisheries and seafood industry has made efforts to modernize, improve responsibility and strengthen fisheries management, and in the coming time, on the basis of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States, Vietnam is ready to exchange and work with the United States to remove existing obstacles and continue to promote fair and sustainable bilateral trade cooperation, ensuring the legitimate interests of the people and businesses of the two countries.
Regarding the issue of exchange and negotiation on tariffs between Vietnam and the United States, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson added: "Vietnam has been and will continue to closely cooperate with the United States on the issue of reciprocal taxes and related contents on the basis of compliance with international law, compliance with the law and ensuring the legitimate interests of each country, promoting fair and sustainable trade, bringing real benefits to people in the two countries."
