In mid-September, Hoang Ba Dinh ( Hanoi ) returned to Hoang Su Phi after three years of missing the ripe rice season. Dinh shared that many tourists know the Dong Van - Meo Vac - Lung Cu backpacking route, so Hoang Su Phi is like a secret that few people know.
This place takes on a completely different beauty in September and October with terraced fields in the golden ripe rice season, small villages nestled peacefully between mountains and forests, and vast, poetic steppes.
The Hanoi boy suggests that to explore this western land of Tuyen Quang province, visitors should go for 3 days and 2 nights, combining the locations of Xin Man, Suoi Thau, Ban Phung, Nam Khoa, and Chieu Lau Thi peak.

According to the above schedule, the two places that impressed Dinh the most during his trip back to Hoang Su Phi were Suoi Thau and Ban Phung grasslands. These were also two places so beautiful that the Hanoi boy had to exclaim: "Is this really Vietnam?".
Suoi Thau grassland is compared by many young people to a miniature Europe. Suoi Thau has a strangely gentle and peaceful beauty. The grassland stretches out smoothly, the golden rice fields, the buckwheat hills, rapeseed flowers, cockscomb flowers... are in full bloom.
From October to the end of the year, the flowers in the grasslands will bloom more. In particular, in Suoi Thau there are not too many noisy tourist services, only nature and tranquility.

Ban Phung with its "specialty" of terraced fields in the ripe rice season is a place that anyone who comes to Hoang Su Phi must check in at least once. If asked where is the place with the most beautiful terraced fields in Hoang Su Phi, Dinh would not hesitate to say Ban Phung.
“Village in the clouds” with the soft curves of terraced fields winding along the mountainside, interspersed with small, pretty houses hidden in the afternoon smoke, creates a picture that is both majestic and poetic.
Meanwhile, Nam Khoa has the unique Mam Xoi hill located in the middle of the rice valley. If you have extra time, you can visit some other places to see ripe rice such as Thong Nguyen, Ta Su Choong, Ho Thau...

Notes on the trip
Prepare good health, solid motorbike driving skills or hire a local motorbike taxi to proactively stop and rest.
Avoid carrying bulky suitcases. You should bring a light backpack to tie to the back of your motorbike to make traveling between sightseeing spots more comfortable.
When choosing a date to travel to Hoang Su Phi and Suoi Thau, you should carefully check the weather forecast on the day of your intended trip. Remember to prepare raincoats and warm clothes because the weather is unpredictable. Staying overnight in the highlands will be colder than in the plains.
When riding a motorbike, remember to fill up with gas at the right time, suitable for each stage to avoid running out of gas on mountain passes or in places without houses.
The rice harvest season is the peak tourist season, remember to book bus tickets and homestay early to have more choices and cheaper prices.
